Nice one but you neglected to say how, I have given an example in my post, but not easy especially if you are on your own and do not have an available lamp post to nudge the car up against, if it is not put in gear there will be no where near enough time to block the inlet before the engine blows, Rick

Never had to do it myself thank god but on most terranos have the butterfly valve thats designed to stop the engine quicker on shut down, do you think holding that shut manually would stop the engine

probably, if you have one, (my 2 TDi's do not) and if you can find it in a panic situation and also have a tool to turn it, you will not do it with your fingers, Rick

Yeah, I know :sly

I was asking how for an auto box :naughty

you would have to block the air intake with a small kitten or some other small furry creature...........................

or you could cram a tshirt in there what ever is quickest :lol

You made me chuckle sir.

On a serious note reading all posts rick and Clive are on it, with the intercooler off see if the turbo stops spitting out oil after several mins, hopefully it's just residue. One other thing to mention :) have you now checked the oil level as they do take more than 6. :thumb2

At the moment ive cleaned out the intercooler and the air intake pipe of all the oil and is now airing out so ill see in the morning.Ive checked the oil level and topped up as I knew it would need more so ill see in the morning how it goes but just wanted peoples advise on the turbo from the video as if its fooked I can get a replacement from cncfabs as he's local to me and has one

I'd say it was fairly inconclusive....

The amount of oil that appeared in the IC input in the video would not be enough to cause run away, so there must have been more oil conning though from somewhere else.

Most of what you see in the video seemed to come up from the sides of the silicon pipe, which was left over.

When I first got my T2, it was using oil, and in the end it started doing what yours did. I think mine was "banking" the oil in the IC, and when I stopped at a junction, and the car was leaning to the drivers side, it ran down into the inlet manifold and ran away. Luckily, the few times it did it, it ran out almost as fast as it started, and only once, did I need to stall it.

In my case, it came down to a combination of things.

My Turbo was leaking oil. This was proved by thoroughly cleaning everything up, re-setting everything up, but removing the breather hose and blocking the hole in the pipe that runs from the airfilter to the Turbo. Make sure to stick the end of the breather hose into a container. I then ran the car for a couple of days, and re-checked the turbo and intercooler, it was full of oil.

After I changer the Turbo, things improved, but I was still using a bit of oil. This was when I discovered that the Breather Control valve was not working properly, so I fitted the catch tank.

At the same time, Rick did my valve stem seals.

These pretty much improved it all, but I found that I can only half fill the oil on the dip stick. If I take it up to the full mark, the oil still somehow ends up in the turbo, but I have never worked out how, as there is nothing in the catch tank?? As long as I leave it only half way up, the car uses hardly any oil...

I have now just accepted this, and given up questioning the nature of the Terrano:bow:bow

Only watched the first part of vid, but the way it started I would say you have a compression down, so check that out first, Rick

do not use your hand it will hurt said:
Well thats better than hurting your own hand but not a nice thing to do to a mate Rick. :lol:lol:lol:lol

How the heck would to stall a run away diesel engine with an auto box

ive wondered that myself:nenau
drive forward then slam it into reverse while still moving has worked for me before.:lol:lol

Are these the dreaded tips snapped off that people keep warning about.

Yep you got that right. So grabbed the bull by the horn and decided to get the head off,and after just over 3hrs (first time doing one) it was off.One cylinder was full of water and what seems the glow plug welded to the top of the bore.Next one was full of oil and the last 2 where fine but in them thats where the plugs had snapped and couldn't see any traces where they went.

Went back to the first cylinder closest to the water pump after cleaning it up and seen this

Well the one on the right is a normal metal one, the one on the left looks to be a ceramic with the ceramic tip gone, whatever you need a new engine, poss cncfabs or banshees mate, Rick
