Comfortably? lol

I've been fantasising about this idea for a while and love the idea of going on a long road trip and just kipping in the back. I am alos planning on visiting Norway next year so I wanted to maybe also think about sleeping in the back for that too.

If you guys have ever done it please share your experiences and pictures too if you have any :D

uncomfortable and cold are my first comments, warm wise not too bad if you have a sleeping bag (depends on outside temp) but if you are a 6 footer like me it just aint big enough, yea you can sleep but not good, Rick

I've slept in back of LWB before, obviously more room but made it comy enough but biggest problem was condensation on windows and just about everything. How about a roof tent like people fit on landies???? or cheaper still just a tent, roll mat and sleeping bag!!! job done.

nope. i have an SWB, and I have laid in the back to test it, but never spent any time sleeping. I suppose its perfectly possible, just uncomfortable because the back seats dont fold down to a level (back seats slightly higher than the boot area...)

I'd buy an LWB for that, as Jim says!

You could buy a caravan type hammock, you need two sockets at the front two at the back, you could make a temporary frame, then the hammock could be fitted over the nearside front and rear seats.

Or you could do a similar thing with a solid base and a foam mattress, remove the front nearside and rear seat and you have storage under. Leave it there all the time.

For ventilation, if you leave the windows partly open, you will need a cover from the top of the door to keep the rain out.

A few hooks for the curtains, a large screw top bottle... For night time relief. :augie

I remember someonr having a fishing chair / bed in there t2 cant remember who or if lwb or swb

Will try to find

didn't someone on here do a flat floor sleeping conversion in a swb, was it makeitfit or was it etreme4x4? try a search there were photos. If n not give me a bell and I will try and describe what i remember about it :thumb2

I did a flat bed interior for tools etc and extreme did a kids bed rear end job .
I've slept in mine and the trick is to have one of those basic army camp beds. I put it on my flat interior so that one end overhangs the front seat that's slid forward and tilted to the dash. It works and I'm 6ft. That said a tent is much easier :D and BnB warmer :thumbs

I've slept in cars many times (four up in a 2CV probably ranks as the worst, narrowly beating sleeping across the back seat of a Citroen Dyane in a blizzard). I'm yet to have a comfortable night sleeping in a car. A small tent is a lot easier. I use a self-inflating mat so creating a proper bed takes no time at all.

caravan, you know you want to :augie

Toured Norway once the two of us sleeping very comfortably in a mk2 cortina estate. We did take a tent to put our stuff in to make room. The campsites had some huts for hire. Think a short wheelbase a bit short.

Norway spectacular but very exspensive and we found the people very reserved. Regards. Bri

I've found it :D http://www.nissan4x4ownersclub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5109

Looks a nice job actually, I may be in touch with him about it, looks just the thing I'm after

I think if I did do the conversion I would have to invest in a roof box to store all the gear in so it was comfortable and we weren't rolling over onto everything

Expand, Sounds interesting lol

ive slept loads of times in my lwb perfetcly, when i get a woman, we'll go on road trips and sleep in my truck:D:D:D, theres enough space:rolleyes: also, ive sleeped in my swb too, good space in that too:)

Sleeped Ryan?

when you get your woman you wont be sleeping.....

once slept in boot of range rover classic with back seat folded down/forward
and was crap, more cat napped thru the night.

suspect better off in front seats, reclined though did that once in a maestro
and recall wanting to stretch out and waking myself up when toes hit pedals.

suspect tent is best bet, atleast flat then can use some sort of matress or camp
bed if fussy.
