Hi any one out there had to renew the hand brake cable, in a quick inspection i thought it was in 3 parts, mine has seized on the nearside leg  and i thought i had to just replace that part, now at closer inspection the whole 3 part unit needs replacing, any one know if this is the case it means that instead of doing one side at a time i will have to strip both rear brakes at the same time am i correct :?: :?: :?:

I've never changed one BUT the handbrake cables are seperate until you get to just underneath the hand brake, where the handbrake lever has one cable coming in, then this activates a load spreader ie one splits into 2
So you can change either rear cable.
hope this helps..

Yep - I just checked (I've got a spare axle complete with handbrake cables and the 2 sides are separate.

If you look closer the single pull is riveted to the wheel puller cables therefore making one unit if it was clipped you could just replace the faulty part but i think that all 3 sections are one unit   unless someone knows differnt :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?:

Just had a look on http://www.brakeparts.co.uk/ the 2 back cables aren’t to bad on price but the front parts a bit pricey at over £50.
hi toolbox just had a look at this website looks good but when i tried to locate a hand brake cable for my model it states that very few have been sold therefore they do not stock them :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: :?:

I looked up Nissan Terrano and they are listed for them, surely the Maverick is going to be the same, strange though.
Also noticed there are 2 front cables listed and no explanation of the difference between them.

I looked up terrano and got the same comment as ford mav, however i think i pressed the wrong model in select, cos i had another look and saw the cables, that wont break the bank if i have to go down that route will it

Got Axle stands she's up safly in the air now ans yes they unclip like a bike cable but bigger ordered nissan terrano brake cable from http://www.brakeparts.co.uk/ looks like a good service 8) cheers for the info lads

I have managed to undo the puller end of the cable however the drum end is rusted solid into the back plate, does any one knows if this is retained by clip screw thread or just push fit :?: WD 40 has been sprayed liberally over the cable case i have clouted it a few times for good measure, it wobles now but won't pull out any one out there done this job before :?: any ideas :?: before i get my cutting stone into my grinder, just rememberd it's still in there from fitting the drop links

I had my cables and shoes replaced back in July after having seized cables and over heating rear brakes. She hasn't covered that many miles since but the handbrake lever was really pulling up quite high, around 14 clicks (way too much). This afternoon I adjusted the cable up so that I get about 6 clicks and she holds on hills now. Have had a run round and all seems ok the drums don't seem too warm. I'm assuming that it is normal for new cables to stretch? and am being a bit cautious, may be over cautious as I don't really want them binding and causing over heating again. Is it normal for the new cables to stretch?

I would not be surprised for a cable of that length to stretch a little when new, it should settle down now and not continue to stretch.

I managed to whack them out after cutting them off with an angle grinder, then using a punch to remove the corroded cable case, replaced my wheel cylinders at the same time, as they were showing signs of leaking, more of a weep than aleak but fixed it before it broke.
I had slightly over adjusted ond pair of shoes at the rear causing slight over heating of the drum but soon bedded it self in  :?:
