Plenty of penetrating oil and work them very small amount each way till they feel free, if you do shear any they can be drilled right through and tapped out larger and threads sealed with gasket goo, Rick

The threads in the housing are captive and sealed from the tank, so as long as you don't drill right through, you won't need the gasket goo, but ... life isn't like that, and you will probably drill through, like Rick says. So catch the bits...

The screws are M5, and have a pozidrive head, and a standard 8mm AF hexagon head.
As Rick says, small turns each way wins every time, slowly increasing the amount, if tight in any direction, go other way again... as soon as you force it.. they shear.
The overall seal is a large "O" ring, which stays with the tank.:thumb2

If you do suspect some swarf falls into the tank, pop a magnet in there for keeps. It should eventually contain any ferrous bit in one place.

That is a very good tip, although it should be easy to hold/fix a grease covered rag/card under the drill position to catch any swarf, there is always one bit that will get away, Rick

Thats an awesome idea!!!! Not too dissimilar to the idea of magnetising the sump plugs on the engine and gearbox drain plugs

Yeah I think we may have exceeded my mechanical capacity about 7 posts ago :augie :naughty
