hi guys just renewed my membership as i thought the site was very helpfull & some good friendly guys on here , need little help got a fiat 1.9td diesel which ran great started loosing power so first thoughts mass air sensor , i cleaned it little difference so i purchased one from ebay it was worse ! then i got told about cheap ebay ones are poor quality so i upped my price now got the bosch one , when the cars warmed up its brill but when cold its flat as a fart pedal almost to the carpet 20mph:doh but after 3 mile or so when she warms up its off again im clutching at straws now , can anyone shed any light on this

sounds like it could be one or more of the glowpugs, they help the engine when it is cold.
there is a download to explain how to test and replace them.

regards bri

i always thought glow plugs was to heat up just to get the motor running but i could be wrong , dont they only work for few secs till its started ...mmm

they stay on until the engine warms up. I had two faulty on my terrano and although it started it ran very lumpy for the first mile or so depending on the air tempreture.

Plugs or Rail 100% had this on my dads 1.8TD Escort van back in the day, the rail had broke half way down and only 1 and 2 were warming up when tested with the multimeter

aah that sheds new light will look into this.. starts first crack ticks over sound when cold but really hesitant to pull off ..big thanks for advice guys :thumbs

well, I have a stilo JTD, and ill bet anything, its either your MAP sensor, or the EGR. in fact, id be 99% sure it is based on what you have said.

buy TWO blanking plates or make your own, do the egr. Remove the MAP, and clean it as it will be sooted iit you have never done it before.

this i suspect, weill make a massive difference....

Now its cold, i start mine up and leave it runnning for about 10 minutes before i drive it. But i have a 8 foot gate on my drive to stop anyone nicking it.

We're on the Veg lol

I'd try the plugs first purely because it's free, get yourself a multimeter and someone to sit in the car and flick the ignition on and off when testing the plugs and rail for voltage.

You should read 12v for about 10-15 secs and then it will drop to 0v, your helper should hear the relay click off from inside the car if you are both quiet enough

Failing that go down the MAF route

i run veg got a twin tank set up with electric heater round fuel filter and a coolant heat exchanger so i can run pretty much 80to 90% veg in winter and at mo makro doing rapeseed oil for 99p a litre:thumbs but still wouldn't let the car just warm up for 10 mins it can do that driving down the road:lol

with the setup i have u start up on diesel wait till engine is warm in this time fuel filter heater is on heating the oil in filter which is where it can go wrong when oil is to cold as it waxs in filter once engine is heated then i flick a switch to run on oil mixed with abit of petrol, when i stop for long time i run it back on the small diesel tank to make sure there is only diesel in the pump for next time u start up on cold:cool:

few different ideas to look at its done 80,000 now & just wondering if egr valve as ever been looked at i guess not , modern cars bloody electronic sensors :bow please bring back the old moggi thou simplicity ,easy repair cheap on ya pocket no diagnostics:doh

well, as I suggested, MAP and EGR. Very common thing on the JTD engines in particular. MAP is just above egr at the back/middle of engine.
