I don't know what this is, I think it might be HGV related :)

Quick release aerial mounting, probably off a CB rather than ham radio or anything.

I used to love my quick releases back in the eighties. Twist, pull & pop your aerial in the car :thumb2

I used to have one on the CB aerial on the front of the car, so I could take the aerial off when not in use, but they tarnish up if not put on and off regularly and mess up the SWR

So I just need the rest now :lol I had a quick look on ebay the other week for a cheap setup for wiltshire meet laning

Credit goes to jim, well done bud :thumbs but your prize got lost in the post :lol

Dam lost in the post:doh

As Clive said they corode and also wear too, I never liked them personally for those reasons and of course it extends your aerial so messes up the SWR.

If you decide to fit a CB to go green laning then far better to get a flexible antenna and if you are not wanting it to transmit very far then get a shorter antenna too.

I learnt everything I know about cb radio from smokey and the bandit, and I can't remember most of that, what is swr?

Briggie! Where are ya pal, tell this gentleman. Although radio is my field Briggie is the CB expert, he has stacks of experience.

"Standing Wave Ratio" I have also seen smokey and the bandit, well the reruns anyway I am not old enough to have seen the original the rest I just googled :lol

Doug, If you manage to get your setup done before the Wilts meet, I always carry my SWR meter, so I can set you up on the day.:D
Obviously Briggie is this forums guru, but SWR is Standing Wave Ratio.
Let us all know how you get on with the setup!

Will do davey boy, I was only looking at 50 quiders, can't really justify spending loads on one when work is quiet, any brands I should avoid etc.?

Terrano steve, I'm not old enough either, just the re-runs but still only seen those a while ago, oh and max and paddy, ten four rubber d1€£ :lol

Doug, any £50 quidder will work well for convoy work, just use good quality coax RG54 cable, good clean unions at each end and take your 12v power from the battery rather than a ciggy outlet.
My twig is a Sigma Firestik ( a Firestik copy) £17, it works well and easy to tune. It's a rigid fibreglass base loaded antenna but ive added a flexible connector for the reasons Jim mentioned earlier. If it takes a wack, it'll bend!
I'll post some pics tomorrow.
