Not an owner yet but seriously considering a Patrol.

Sold my Landcruiser 80 series and now looking for a replacement.

Have found a 2004 model with 74k on it. Will be looking for advice on things to look for. Seem to remember 2003 onwards have the better engine, perhaps I'm totally wrong?

Anyhow, that's me.

Cheers

Hello and welcome to the forum. The Patrol and Landcruisers are both very capable steeds.

The Cruiser was a great truck, just a bit sore on fuel. 22mpg on a run and about 14 in town! It was raised, running 285's and a huge roof rack. So the Patrol will be a sensible truck,ha.

Welcome bud :thumbs

Got a 2004 Trol myself. From 2003 on are the ones to look at, the early 3.0 engines (pre 2003) were of a slightly different design and had a few issues.

Can't advise on any particular issues tbh, as with any 4x4 of that sort of age rust is one to look out for and any damage from offroading (not that I have any of that :augie).

Rust. Is this chassis rust or body rust ? I know the older patrols have arch issues. Most of the trucks I've owned have been imports so chassis always in good condition and be hoping a 2004 patrol would be just as clean.

Tbh bud just a generalisation as the salt used on UK roads can play havoc with any vehicle - mine looked fine when I got her and she still does, a few areas of light surface rust on the chassis and that's pretty much it...

I did discover the wee crossmember that the radiator sits has been eaten away a wee bit on one corner but that was only once I removed the front bumper to fit the winch :nenau

The truck I'm looking at is from a west coast island so it'd be subject to more salt in the air. May not have been there all of its days I've yet to find out.
I also stay by the coast so I know a cared for vehicle can endure these conditions. Will be requesting more pictures when I make the call today, especially of chassis. :thumb2

Hi and welcome, I've run 80's since 97 and quite often fancied a Trol and had a few test drives in 4.2's, 2.8's and 3.0's and in 04 nearly p/xed my 95 80 against a new black Trol. The 04 trol was a bit more modern than the 80 but in the end back to back it wasn't worth the extra outlay.
Best of luck with the hunt

Andy
