I was taught many years ago by my father to smear grease over car battery terminals to protest from corrosion and deposits from battery acid.

What’s everyone else’s thoughts?

I was taught the same !

In the old days acid did seep up the terminal posts so it was a way of stopping the white deposits of lead oxide forming that would eventually lead to a poor battery connection .

Still works toady but the seal between post and casing has improved.

My last set of domestic batteries have SS posts and quality seals with SS bolts on the connecting links, no grease no hint of corrosion, Rick

My Jeep Battery

The Yuasa on our Jeep has been in places over two years - brushed them with Copper Ease - no corrosion.

Good old vaseline on mine:naughty

The advantage of Vaseline over Copper Ease is the stain on your sleeves are easier to remove.

A small advantage is that the Copper content would reduce any Galvanic Corrosion between the post & the terminal.

So it would seem the consensus of opinion is similar to mine by smear a protective layer of a grease of different types.
I was beginning to think it was just me.

Always used Copper Slip myself (Copper Ease) eve since I started in engineering back in the 80's.....Copper obviously being an excellent conductor as well.
All work well in the long run.:D

The advantage of copper grease is that it will only need doing once, & then last as long as the battery!

That will depend entirely on the quality of the seal post to case, Rick
