I did a 30 mile lane trip home from familys house this evening.
in the dark.
I finally got chance to blind someone with there main beam on on a country lane
twat lamps work and he will think twice next time.

Think you need to think a bit more about that, are you under the impression that the the "dazzler" was doing it deliberately, I doubt it, probably an inexperienced person not sure of the controls on their motor and by dazzling them you could be creating a potential crash situation, if I get dazzled, I may give a very short main beam flick but no more and if necessary stop it is simply not worth the risk, how many drivers do you notice that give a headlight flash when operating their indicators cos it is on the same stalk, several times a day round here, Rick

The number of car drivers driving cars with headlights that are mis-aligned is increasing.

Possibly the have a go DIY'er thinking they know what they are doing:doh

I see several on every evening trip on the motorway:doh:doh

If there are so many, why don't the police stop them, advise them and it is an opportunity, having stopped them, to check them with the breathalyser.:doh

Also if you have a brake light out, again an opportunity to stop you. There are plenty of those around.

the miss a alignment is most probably down to the t**ts putting new bulbs in and not realising it should only go in 1way but they can be forced in the wrong way and then u have the miss a alignment :augie it is sad and worrying at the same time as u have to wonder what else they think they can do to their car's to save money and get it wrong

I think headlights that dazzle have become ever more frequent in the last few years. Designs with a very sharp cut-off to the dip beam are the worst as they appear to flash when going over uneven ground, a lot of newer cars suffer from this.
Add to this the advent of manually adjustable beams (which should be set on '0' before adjustment.....how many actually know this let alone do it?) & the idiot minority that seam incapable of driving with less than every light illuminated (inc. the illegal ones!) & doubtless wonder, if it registers at all, what the blue light means on the dashboard. A good rule-of-thumb would appear to be: more lights= less brain cells.
I could go on but I'm sure you've all read enough to gather that it's my pet hate LOL. IMHO night blindness is a very real & increasing problem that is totally ignored when fitness to drive is in question.

Having said all that I bought a car from the auctions several years ago, never used the lights until the MOT when it was discovered that both headlight bulbs were upside down! This was even more unbelievable as the bulbs had tangs on them to (in theory) prevent this happening.

One question I would love the answer to: why do m/cyclists think having main beam on during daylight is anything but idiotic as it still dazzles & makes the next one almost invisible? A bit like 'red-car-syndrome'?

motorbikers have the lamps on so they can be sure they are noticed.. its very easy not to see a motorbike..

i dislike people who blind me and always happy to do it in return

its easy to see car headlights coming from a good distance even around bends.
the person a blinded not only could see us coming but there was also traffic in front of me so he blinded them too. he may be more aware next time:naughty

On some of your points on this thread i would agree.But as for oncoming cars coming around bends.Sorry that is not always true.Down dark unlit twisty country roads,the first you know of an on coming vehicle is when you are dazzled.
I have drove thousands of miles down such twisty bendy hilly roads.
Mostly you try to read the road in front of you.And on many occasions,i have been Blinded/Dazzled.
But mostly they have been accidental.
I have one question,why would like to cause a possible accident??:nenau

I think we should all remember that we are not all perfect drivers, and nor should we be, it is simply a valid means of transport for all, we that are better at it than others should make allowances, it is not hard to do, just read the road, if you can do that then you most likely can anticipate the less able and make allowances, how many times have you been flashed by someone using their indicators and unknowingly pulled the stalk up to hard, these things happen all the time, the difference between a good driver and not so good is recognising these instances in a second or so and making the appropriate allowance, the 60 odd year old lady has as much right to the road as any one else, it is probably her life line, Rick

It's just a heat of the moment reaction that I'm sure most people have done.
I know I have.
The oncoming driver might have had a lapse of concentration and a quick flash from an on coming vehicle will make them realise they forgot about their main beam and make him/her more aware that they forgot to turn it off and possibly reduce the risk of an accident as it's fresh in their mind to dip their lights.:nenau

When I had a motorbike, I always had the headlight on dipped, BUT still some b****** would pull out in front of you.

I do a lot of night time driving and can nearly always see another vehicles lights around a bend, most dip, as I do, before we dazzle each other, but some don't and a quick flash normally see's the other driver dip their lights.
You do get the one's who don't dip and keep the beam on full, so I always put my high beam on.
As for rear and front fog lights, they always get a good flash from me....tossers :augie
