im looking for a big torch possibly led
i want lots of light( enough to search the garden from the back door )and a run time of around 3 hours

rechargeable

i realize its not going to be cheap but i only want to spend once and not be disappointed

anyone help ?

Extreme,

You generally can't go wrong with a Maglite - Pricy I know and not rechargeable.

There are loads of good LED / LED assist torches on the market for buttons even rechargeable ones. It's almost as if it is cheaper to buy a new torch than replace the batteries.

It almost sounds like you would be as well buying some security lights, under a tenner with a 500 watt bulb. - Spare bulbs at Aldi IIRC 3 for £3-4

Cheers

Graham

no i have outside lights on the house... i need a torch for off road and walking the dog etc

reason for needing lots of light ..... im scared of the dark

so i need loads of light and 3 hours run time,

my current torch is halogen its bright and lasts 5 mins then im in the dark

scary

As the man says maglite are th bees knees, though if you want a good beam I'd stick to bulbs rather than LEDs. LEDs are fab for worklights but youcan't beat a bulb for distanc work.

How big is your garden? Most of the 6v battery powered "lantern" torches would probably do the job for you, some are rechargeable themselves others you can just fit a rechargeable battery to. I sell quite a few rechargeable 6v batteries to one of my customers, they take the style that have a built in 3 pin plug so you just have to plug the whole battery into the socket, like this one

Big Man like you scared of the dark - come on

i agree with HB on led's the quality of light is not as good as a bulb and by the time you have enough to throw a good beam the power saving goes down a bit aswell!

Whaqtever you buy make sure the batteries are replacable at a reasonable cost as most rechargable things the batteries are the first thing to go.

I would think about a mag light style torch with perhaps a spare set of batteries you can stick in your pocket just in case? one set to use and one on charge even?

I think the thing about conquering fear of the dark (if your not pulling my leg) is learn to see yourself as part of the dark landscape and blend in rather than stick out like a 'spare part' with a big torch so you cant see much but everythig and everyone can surely see you!

When ina dark situation just stand still breath slowly and count sloely upt to ten and the open your eyes this trick aids you night vision and you soon get used to the darkness, I find a torch just makes the darkness beyond its beam seem even darker!

when you do need the torch just short few second bursts so as not to loose you night vision if you can still see the light against your eyelids when you turn it off close your eyes agan until it fades. Remeber in the dark you cant see everyhtuing but then it cant see you either!

As mentioned before I have a small maglite in the T2 all the time & have found it gives of a good beam of light & it's still in one peace after I drove the T2 over it  I also have the larger 3D battery one & thats fantastic & often carry that one in the T2 during the winter

Not cheap, but as Rob says the Dragon Lamp is the dogs doodahs.

Edit:- Doh, I missed Robs post above

While maglites are superb, we've got the little AA ones and a big six-cell jobbie, for what you describe (off road & dog walking) a good compromise would be a decent LED head torch, run time brilliant, the latest LED ones are really bright as well. If cost is no object look for Petzl, if cost is an issue then TBH there are lots out there for abour £15 that will do quite nicely.

sounds a daft question but do people take a torch dog walking then?

When walking dog on site use led wind up,prefer batt torch for strenth of light.

wow, standing over it cooking I would be worried about shining it in my eyes LOL

ideal for rabbiting though no gun required just fry them where they stand
