Bit by bit, evening by evening, I've been tweaking the old FarmFind to be a bit more useful.
Namely, twin battery install, roof bar LEDs and so on.
I don't get on with the the bloody image site's random storage method so this may be a bit disjointed
First off I got an ebay special split charge thingy and mounted it to the bulkhead.

From there it's simply a charge wire through the bulkhead to my 2nd battery located behind the drivers seat.
It's going in this ebay marine battery box I've bolted to the floor

Cut a bit of old floor mat for the bottom to help grip the battery a bit

After some wire routing it looks like this

You'll see I've fitted a secondary fuse box here too. I'm supplying the roof lights and winch from here totally seperate from the main engine battery.
One thing I found which I hadnt considered originally is that the trigger wire via the relays, does allow back feed voltage to the reverse lights and head lights when switched. I dont want that so bought some 12v diodes. These just plug inline and work a treat. The idea is that if I do need just the roof lights with nothing else, I can .

All heat shrinked up

Dash switches from ebay fit in nicely too

Rear LEDs and volt gauge with USB out

Obligatory roof bar shot

Ive put a couple of small LEDs on the rear roof and reversing is now bliss

Trying to keep lines clean and understated this time round

I'm working on some extra power outlets and wired in winch switch but a worn out clutch will delay that delight for a few more days :p

Very nice Pete, do not like the split charge thingy, it will not fully charge the second battery but ho hum as long as it drives your winch OK who cares, nice neat wiring but then that is you to a tee, Rick

Is there a better option Rick that doesnt involve a massive wire from front to back ?
I used this voltage sensing split charge on my camper with no issues, but obviously winch use is demanding .

Problem is the diode has a volt drop so the second battery does not ever see the full automotive charge voltage which is 14.2 so it will never be fully charged (automotive application) fully charged other is 15.2 but limited in automotive cos most times battery is in a hot engine space, to get the best charge to your winch battery is a direct heavy duty relay that when engine running links the start and winch battery together but still need good heavy cables tween the two, best of all of course is a 2nd alternator for the winch, I have to admit that on my Patrol I only have one alternator and one battery but it is a 150 amp from a Pag and works well for me, Rick

Ive only used the diodes between the relay and the trigger from the light.
The split charge thing is voltage sensing and makes at 13.7 volts and breaks at 12.8 volts.
I'm putting a 2nd volt readout for the 2nd battery too just to keep an eye on it.
I could fit 2nd alternator though. Didny you do that on your old one ?

Yes but if it passes the alternator voltage via a diode there is loss, unless it is a mechanical relay, yes I had a 2nd alt on my shorty Mav and worked well and it is still going via another owner although it has had several alternators since due to Slindon mud being aggressive, Rick

Didn't you have a 135amp alt off a QD32 ?
I have yeah, I had to buy an RP19 connector for it and still haven't actually seen it running as the truck is still off the road.

I wonder if it will ever see the road again at this rate

I remind you the Black Pearl is no longer mine. That said there will be a front end rebuild soon 😊

It's had 2 front end rebuilds since the last time you told me you'd get me them :doh

Just let me know when it's there and I'll drive down myself for them :lol

Bigger the build , bigger the crash.
Trouble is even when they do come off , it's off fix return ASAP.
