I thought I would start this as a new thread, in order to make it easier to find in the future. I tried to do a search on here, but "Glow Plug" crops up too in posts, too often, and the forum won't let you search on 3 letter words, so searching for just NGK was out.
I was looking on Ebay, at the Glow plugs, but the prices really vary, as do the actual models listed

So, three questions,

What make have you fitted, and are you happy with them?

Did you go with Ceramic, or Steel ends? (Does it make any difference)

How did you decide which size/model number to get, when you had such a choice?
e.g, for my 1999, 2.7TDi the following NGK plugs with a price ranging from £13.50 for 1, up to £121 for 4, are listed.
Y530J
CY58
NGK5486
QF5990

A similar amount of choice seems to be available for Lucas as well. Then there are the other makes, many of which I have never heard of, so would not know if they are good or bad.

HELP.... I'm sinking....:bow

Not had to change the ones on the Trol yet but when I changed the ones on my Shogun I just ordered from Milners :nenau

As far as it goes for the ends, you're better to go for steel as ceramic ones can, and do, break off...

of the 4 on my scrapper 3 have lost their ceramic ends, only No 4 was good but bent slightly, pulled the injectors out today with a ring spanner, and it is an indirect injection with pintle injectors so unable to see the pistons, so tomorrow it will have to be inlet manifold off and stick the endoscope past the inlet valves, Rick

How was it bent?

I ordered the gaskets, bolts, and Lucas glow plugs today.

I read that the Injectors should be changed at about 100K, is that true, or "Sales Talk"? They're expensive!!

Also, I have read on here many times about the bleed off pipes on the injectors, do I need to look at changing the pipes at the same time, since we are disturbing everything?

Just trying to make sure I have everything in advance.:bow

Well I know from experience that the leak off hoses do leak, mine spews veg oil over the workshop floor at work :lol

I call it self lubricating the underside of the engine the mechanics call it a pain in the backside

Injectors should be changed at about 100K:doh should last the life of the engine if using proper fuel

I bought new Lucas glow plugs from eBay they were £25 for the set of four posted and all four burnt out in a week!!
Mine were marked up as Lucas but did not come in the boxes! I think they were fake

Joy, well these are £44, and supposed to be in boxes, but we will wait and see.

I got my last NGK ones off ebay, from "motorseamus" in Ireland, next day delivery too. Very helpful and able to source them, if they have no stock.:thumb2

But that was a few years ago.

TD and Tdi's are different...
Td ones are cheaper than the Tdi's...:nenau

I have found the NGK ones to be the most reliable.:thumb2

Again, I will mention, to use a "T" bar to undo them, to prevent any side force, like you get with a wrench, which could snap them...:doh
Plenty of WD40 the night before too.

Heat damage, probably not far off of breaking up same as the others.

Injectors as cnc says should last the life of the engine, if it aint broke you cannot fix it, but also as I have now discovered these are "pintle" injectors, this means they do not have 3 or 4 small holes but a single but larger hole with a pin on the end of the needle that protrudes through the hole, pretty much means they are self cleaning and atomise better, that is why they are expensive, but clean water free fuel go on for ever.

yes get yourself a mtr or so of leak off pipe I have a coil here but it is too big for the T2, if you need to know the bore I will measure it tomorrow, Rick

Yes please, I have no idea what it is yet, as I have never seen it.

From the diagram, it looks like it jumpers from one injector to the next, so I will need 8 clips for it as well?

I found when looking them up, you have to be really careful on Ebay some people have obviously cross referenced to cross references, and then again, so some are selling plug that are not at all compatible. The cone Pitch is 119 degrees on the T2, but one site, was selling one that was only 116 degrees.

As I said at the start, there are about 4 or 5 different NGK ones listed.

For future ref:-

NGK part finder.

NGK Partfinder Site

This site lists NGK glow plugs as:-
Nissan 2.7 TD as Y-530J (5686)
Ford 2.7TD as Y-712RS (6140)

Nissan 2.7 TDi as CY58 (5486)
Ford 2.7 TDi as CY58 (5486)

I think you will be fine mate at £44 as I bought a single Lucas plug from the motor factors at £10 and its been fine :thumbs
I only changed all four as I was doing one so thought I may as well do them all while I'm there! Ended up putting three old ones back in that were fine and one genuine new Lucas plug :clap

.

Interesting as all the sites I have been looking at list the same plug for both TD and TDi but also many cross references are clearly in error, so it is a mine field, I had similar problems with my Eberspeker (cannot remember correct spelling) glow plugs were stupid money, looked up many sites and ended up with Beru via a detailed dimension/voltage assessment and paid peanuts for them, essentially for the same item, standard glow plugs should be in the order of under £10 many are £6 so why are the T2 ones £30 odd but discountable to around £18, it is a con, Rick

I changed the plugs on my last T2 (1999 TDI) & used Lucas LP032 glow plugs

Blueprint Glow Plugs

I had Blueprint ones fitted in my r3mR they were still OK after 3 years.

at what price? Rick

I think they were £10 each but that was about 5 years ago from my local parts shop. Out of interest how long do a set of plugs last on average ? keep wondering if I should start thinking about changing mine even tho it starts fine but the truck is 8.5 years old now but only done 55K
