Hi, my T2 diesel has issues starting.

If the glow plug indicator light comes on for 5 secs, it starts first time every time.

However this light rarely comes on, if it does its only for about 1 sec. The car will not start without a 5 sec glow, just turns over and over.

I've changed the engine coolent temp sensor, replaced x4 glow plugs, cleaned up all the earths to the ECU but the problem remains.

I'm now going to try and fit a resistor so regardless of the reading from the sensor i'll always be telling the ECU its cold.

Question, can anyone advise what resistor i need and where do i get it ..?
Also do you invisage any problems with this approach ..?

Thanks in advance Ryan.

Thanks for the quick response. I've had quite a good read of the manual and my interpretation was that depending on the reading from the ECT its the ECU that decides how long the glow period should be.
I was intending to trick the ECU by always giving a cold reading, failing this its a matter of putting the glow plugs on a separate switch.

Your correct it is the ecu that controls glow time, I would check the glow plug relay behind the battery, I know mine had a similar problem some years ago and it was the relay that was faulty, the ecu supply’s an earth connection to the relay to switch it on.

I thought it was the relay that DID the timing, not the ECU..

but as you point out the time changes

No, ECU controls the timing of the glows. There is also a lengthy post-glow where the power is cycled at 5 second intervals..

I think i'll change the relay. Does anyone know the partnumber / where to source one from..?

Problem Solved.

New relay part number 25230-G2400 described as a Control Module has been fitted.
The car now starts every time.

Thanks to all for your help.

I found it on Ebay. £9.99, just do a google for that partnumber you'll get quite a few hits.

It sits bolted to the inner wing, remove the battery to gain access. Easy 15 min job.

I paid about £50 for one from Nissan thinking it was something special, took the old one to bits to find its just a 50amp switching relay.
