Hi guys, a quick question...

Last weekend i replaced my glow plugs as my truck started to splutter a bit on cold starting, almost as if it was starting on three cylinders and was very lumpy for a good few seconds.

So i bought a set of Lucas glow plugs and promptly fitted them and i have to say its not improved, if anything it may even be worse.

Is there anyway to check the glow plugs are working because it seems as though there not working or very inefficiently....

Any help would be appreciated

get a meter,at the top of the engine left hand side you have several plugs,1 big round one.as you look it them the furthest one away from the round one ie nearest to rocker cover is a push fit plug with a thick wire.pull the plug put + of meter into said plug put - to any earth have meter set to 20v,turn ignition to glow and you should have over 12v on the meter even when glow light goes off it should show volts.if you have the volts for about 1 minute befor it goes then your relay is working,i trust you connected the bus bar to the plug i am referring to and 4 plug caps screwed down.
what fuel you using.is it getting enough fuel.fuel solonid clikking when you turn ignition on.
these are starting points.

Thanks for the reply
I will give that a try at the weekend with the multi meter.
Yes i refitted the buzz bar along the top and gave all the connections a rub over with a wire brush before i put it back on.
I am running normal (expensive) forecourt diesel.

Where did you get the glow plugs from? I bought some Lucas ones from eBay and they turned out to be fake and burnt out straight away!! Got another set from motor factors and they have been fine.

sorry the signature needed amending.....i dont do bio any more....

I bought the glow plugs from the motor factors....so would hope they are genuine....but i have to say its much worse than before i fitted them....seriously considering putting the old ones back in to see if its any different....

I am gunna do the voltage test first i think...

Can you here the glow plug relay clicking on and off??
If you have no volts to the Buzz bar it could be that.

i dont know to be honest....i am working away from home at the moment so dont want to mess with it until i get safely home....
