Hi all this time last year i replaced my glow plugs and the motor has been great at starting, usually first click.

I have noticed over the last week or so that the spin over when starting appears to be getting slightly longer, resulting in a little puff of smoke once it starts.

So my question is; as the title suggests how long should the glow plugs expect to last?

Is it a matter of replacing them again, which i don't mind doing if i need to to retain the good clean start?

Cheers
Stephen

What kind of use does your truk get, if it`s not used to its full potential carbon can build up and cause this, give it a right good high speed blast and see if this helps.
Your glow plugs should last a hell of a lot longer than 12 months,

Agree, they should last years, but, what type did you fit, were the cheap ones off of ebay or a well known make/brand.
I have found that not all that's sold on the net, is good...drop links and the like.:augie

It does get quite a thrashing quite a bit of time, that doesnt seem to have helped the starting.

Its not a bad starter, it just appears to be getting a little longer as time goes by.

I can't remember what brand they were....i dont recall them being a brand such as NGK....

cheers

What fuel do you use? Veggie oil like Sunflower can take it's toll

I have been using bio for about 12 months but last month or so i have been on normal diesel due to a shortage of oil

I use bio too but also inject LPG :naughty My glow plugs have worn out in two years but not sure what the culprit was. Mind you this time of year there's hardly any heating going on. Have you actually taken them out for a look as there could be other issues

Just swapping mine now.

see photos of new and old.
