Hi, I have a '91 D21 with a '93 Terrano R3MR 2.7TD engine and gearbox.
The glow plugs are crap though and it takes forever for it to start in the morning... what are the best plugs to replace it with??

Bosch or Beru in my opinion are about the bst quality and have a good lifespan. Are sure you have actual problems with the glow plugs or the controller / wiring?

At the morning temps we have at the moment, (15-18degC) it should start WITHOUT pre-glowing after about 5 seconds of cranking. This assumes your battery and starter are capable of winding it over at a proper speed. Perhaps your problem is here and not with the plugs?? If the valve clearances are tight this will also seriously hamper cold starting.

Errrr... When I did the engine conversion it started instantly for about a week then it started struggling to start. If I turn it over for about 20 seconds until it's bordering on flooding and then leave it for a minute or so it will then start second time round instantly. And if its been running for about 5 mins it will then start again straight away for the rest of the day. But the glow plug light used to stay on for a couple of seconds... now the light takes about 10 seconds and about another 10 seconds for the relay?!?

An example of a 12degC cold start without the glowplugs from my truck this morning.
