hi there lads and lasses, i hope your Terrano is more healthy than ours ?

i don't believe that the jinx of my daughters previous two motors (daihatsu four tracks) has followed he to her to her latest acquisition a 10 year old Terrano.

It broke down monday night, the RAC came out to solve a Clutch problem, he diagnosed the Clutch Master Cylinder is Kaput !!

To add to the already grim situation it refused to start, diagnosed as Fuel Pump, confirmed by a light blinking on the dashboard, "check error codes" etc.

I had it recovered the following day to a local garage, they confirmed the Fuel Pump as the MAIN problem, BUT first they have to take it to the nearest large town (LUTON) where they have the facility to Test the Fuel Pump with a code reader, and i don't believe the worst case senario is £1500 !!!!, and that is without the Clutch Master Cylinder being fixed.

Not going to be a Happy Christmas in my house !!!.

what fault codes were u getting from the mil light did u check the fault code urself. have known fuel pumps to pack up and it only being the lift pump of the injection pump can be solved by getting an inline 12v fuel pump around £50 -£100 but would help if u have got the fault codes:thumb2

Local big town :lol:lol:lol:lol classic :D You can get the codes very easily with a paperclip and a can of bud  See downloads for details :thumbs

oop's, i do believe i have rushed into this without a lot of thought, it is with the local garage now, i am sure they will do the job as economically as possible, the mechanics boss, lives on the opposite side of the road to me, so if it does appear that we get ripped off, i am within easy reach of his tyres, windows, letter box etc.

I didn't know anything about what fault codes is on display i should obviously visited here earlier.

thanks all for your ideas.

ask the mechanics 2morrow to give u the fault codes like makeitfit said just a paperclip in pins 1 and 8 i belive will give u the fault codes then come back here and the problem might have been already coverd:thumbs plus its a orange light that will flash and give u the fault codes

ok, so how that work then..

WHAT GIVES THE CODE AND WHERE?

So are you saying the orange light flashes out a kind of morse code message or similar ?

tim

Yep :thumb2 just count the flashes and that'll give you a code. Then you tell us what it is, then we laugh a lot and then eventually let you know :lol:cool:

yes what makeitfit says there will be quick flashes then slow flashes then a pause if more than i code will get diff no. of quick and slow flashes then it repeats itself so the engine will turn over but not start is that correct

Mate, a week ago I was in your shoes. Don't panic ! Have a look in the workshop downloads, get yourself a paperclip, and get those codes on here for the real experts to help you.
You'll be glad you paid your tenner mate.
I thought my maverick was junk, but thanks to the lads on here, I used it for work for the first time today with no problems whatsoever.

I had a new pump supply and fit £740.what you get for 1500

yep and you can use the other for spares or sell it as spares.

Hi Lads, I thought i would bring you up to date on the current state of affairs with my Daughters Motor, owing to your concern about it.

Well it got Diagnosed, they decided it was the Crankshaft Sensor for the Fuel Pump, this got replaced. The engine was NOW running OK, So it goes back to my Local Garage for replacement of the Clutch Master Cylinder ? This also got replaced or simply fixed. and ALLEGEDLY road tested !!

So in great hopes my Duaghter goes to pick it up after 2 whole weeks without it.

It gets WORSE NOT BETTER !!!!!!

Before she even drove it off, she found she couldn't engage gear, no crunching just a Block kind of thing, this is exactly what happened when she first called the RAC LOL.

So today the same garage looked a bit deeper, they road tested it again and the Engine stopped working again, it seems the Crankshaft Sensor has been broken again !!!!.

they say NOW that they believe something has gone wrong with the Clutch Cover plate which is breaking the Crankshaft Sensor !!!

So tomorrow they are removing the Gearbox to perhaps replace the Clutch assembly and the crankshaft sensor !!!!.

Thos are the facts what i have at the moment . . .

Tim

sound about right to me, clutch is breaking up and doing the sensor in the process, probably about £300 for the clutch plus the sensor, Rick

Kool buddy, £300 for the bits perhaps :) i guess that'll be labour extra ! :(

In fact it has another problem, the Speedo cable has finally died as well, I suppose that would be easier to fix if the gearbox is out !!!! jeez !

Clutch woes

Hi,

Might be worth checking the clutch pedal as well.

The spot welds let go on my pedal causing it to become harder to engage gears, basically as I pressed the pedal it came apart not allowing full movement of the master cylinder, making gear selection nigh on impossible.

to remove undo 2 nuts in the engine bay, same ones that hold the master cylinder (Cylinder will say in place) and a bolt inside the car on the upper bukhead, one circlip on the master cylinder plunger and the padal assembly is out.
Welder her up where the spot welds have come apart, then refit.

Just a thought.

Cheers

Steve.

I had my clutch replaced last year about this time by my local garage and they always try to do a good job at a reasonable price. It cost me £500.

Howdy chaps, it is at last back on the road, hip hip hooray, i having to be Taxi service while it was off the road and the novelty was wearing off fairly fast.
The bill although rather high, i feel sure it was FAIR.
