Hi all
I pretty desperate it being Xmas Eve and all.
My 2.7 lwb terrano manual suddenly won't engage gears when the engine is running.
It will when the engine is off then starts badly with clutch engaged. Once driving it's very notchty between gear changes.
Please advice!!!

have you looked at fluid level in clutch resovire,it should be full.if it is it still might need bleeding.the flexy pipe to slave cylinder might have a tiny hole in it.

As panelbeater says or the actual clutch but check level first. Watch out refilling as clutch and brake fluid is a dam fine paint stripper :doh

Hi Jim

I hate to say it but it does sound to be clutch related to me.

If you put it into gear and then start the car with it in gear it should start to nudge the car forward and or stall?

does the clutch pedal feel normal? or does it go lower than before when it starts to pressure the clutch? if so first thing to try is bleeding it, Rick

She feels fine now
Gears engage ok weird...
The clutch pedal feels normal just wouldn't engage when engine running.
What would cause that???

That's weirdly how mine started off and turned out to be friction material come off the driveplate.

There was me thinking that the resident box removal guy couldn't be any further away from Scotland. I didn't know you had an apprentice lol.

Merry Christmas to one and all.
On Friday, my son, his wife and 21 month old daughter arrived from Bahrain, my granddaughter held my hand as we walked all the way from arrivals to the main exit door, then when we got home, she said... GanDad luv you.

Now that is worth living for.. magic. Lounge is full of paper, toys and discarded bucks fizz bottles... :thumb2:thumb2
Merry ... hic... Christmas.

Hi guys merry Xmas
Yeah it appears to be fine now nut I'm dreading getting stuck somewhere not being able to engage a gear.
Friction plate falling apart?
Tried to adjust the clutch pedal nut screw threaded bar but it won't move when it looks like it should?
Is it hard to check/ change a clutch on terrano? I'm pretty handy with the spanners?

Banshee has just done a thread for changing clutch but someone else did too but can't remember who it was but both are comprehensive.
As for worrying about getting stranded, make sure you have some kind of recovery like aa or rac amongst others.

Think you need to give the truck a once over though as your problem sounds a little odd.

You should not need to adjust the pedal as long as it has a small amount of freeplay, unless the nut comes loose it should not alter, sometimes the flexi hose can give trouble (colapse inside) this usually causes clutch slip as it does not allow the slave cyl to release, but does so after a period of none use, you can test this by laying under and pushing the lever back into the slave, it should go fairly easily with a bit of rag on the arm to stop it digging into your hand, Rick
