Gearbox woes

Hi guys, my gearbox is making horrible noises and a local gearbox shop says its days are limited
So I need either a good second hand or refurb one
I have had a price to do the work locally [Canvey Island] which sounds reasonable [£450 inc vat] he says he will do it in a day, wow, I have changed clutches and gearboxes in cars in my DIY days, but Maverick boxes look a bit heavy to drop on my chest :doh
I just need to supply the box
I will get him to change the clutch while he is at it
Suggestions please as to where to start looking :bow

Are you not better of posting this in the Maverick section instead of the X Trail section? Unless of course the problem is with an X Trail box.

Personally I would have my current box refurbished by a good workshop. I had my Patrol gearbox done for around £1100 and it came with 12 month warranty.

Yes, a lot more money then a box of evil bay but at least you know the condition. Anything you buy used can pack up in a couple of months time leaving you with the same problem.
