Posted for and on behalf of Roxy,

---------------------------------------------------

Just wondering if anyone out there knows what my options are.

mechanic seems to think that the main bearing has collapsed on the gearbox.

It jumps out of first, difficult to engage 2nd and whines a bit in third. Also reverse feels like there is an additinal brake on.

Is there a general price range for repair?, Is it worth getting a recon box and swapping it for mine?, does anyone know people who fit or repair these things.

would be grateful for any information from memebers, having had the vehicle only a month could have done without this

cheers
roxy

Hello Roxy, Sorry to see your having problems with your gear box.

As for your options, i would go for a second hand box and swap it, What have you to lose, Plenty about and no real garage bill (Maybe a lot cheaper).

If your mechanic seems to think that the main bearing has collapsed on the gearbox then i would be inclined to believe him, Unless you get a second opinion.

As you have problems posting ,i will post it on your behalf and then if you keep an eye on the reply’s to see what’s what.

As for who you get to swap it i don’t know your area, but we do have a member called "Gearboxman" who may be able to give a rough price and help with the symptoms. Why not do a search for him?.

I had same problem... full gearbox rebuild was £650.00, that was garage collecting vehicle, removing box supply full internal parts from nissan, refitting box to car and delivering the car back to me... they also fitted new clutch kit, again genuine nissan and skimmed fly wheel for extra £220.00.

I would not fit used box as from breakers was £1200.00 no gaurantee of it working.... but you can get a cheaper on but do you really know what your buying..... you could get another rubbish box...

Whatever you do good luck....

I'd personally get a 2nd hand box. 1st place I'd try is

http://www.partsgateway.co.uk/

and I would not pay any where near £1200, was he on something when you got that quote?????

yes.. i think he was stood on his wallet and needed some steps to get off it....

Hi Mr Gadget, do you have the details of the guy who rebuilt the gear box, this seems a good and reasonable price, it could help other members and I will file the details just in case.
Best regards, Rustic
