So after I posted on here about my gearbox woes I decided to chat with Nissan as to the spec of the gearbox oils... (the same lady that was kind enough to give us the PDF of airbag recall)

What got me thinking was the fact that Comma website does not list the gearbox oil for two different Terrano registrations I have put in! it just refers to it as "specialist stock"

Whilst I am waiting for more information she has gotten back to me with the exact oils for the transmission (just checking viscosity variations) I presume these make more sense from a Nissan dealership point of view.

Auto: ATMATIC type D

Manual: MTXZ

I was able to find the MTXZ on google, however I want to get the exact viscosity from her before I commit. :thumb2

Will keep you guys posted.

P.S - on another note I spoke to a gearbox specialist who put me in touch with another friend, whilst I have not confirmed this either, several specialist are now using engine oil in transmissions on some of the older models! with great results!

This is unrelated from my chat with Nissan but I found this table...

not to be used as gospel (yet) :naughty

Engine oil in a manual transmission????:eek:

I noticed when I changed my manual box oil tot he stuff recommended by Comma it was immediately apparent that the gear-change was notchier, especially going into first at low speed. It'll be getting changed again once your lady at Nissan comes up with the goods :thumb2

Yup, I'm not suggesting we do this, just that, with old agricultural set ups they have done this with fantastic results (as technology of oil has improved greatly I suggest)

I will only be adding the mtxz :thumb2

so after long chats with Nissan, found out the viscosity available from them is kind of a "one size fits all"
so I have ordered a large transmission fluid and will await results. May not be changing for a while as I have my trip coming up but hey ho. :thumb2

I hope this helps someone. Once I have changed the fluid I will report my findings. Hopefully it will cure the "stiff" change. :bow
