I have a 2.7 Nissan terrano and everytime i change gear/let my foot of the clutch does it make a clunking sound. it does this in all the gears apart from 4th to 5th.
It has done this for 2 years without any problems but it is just very annoying. Does anybody know what could be the problem please.

Is it your clutch pedal not returning correctly? Theres a bush that the pedal pivots on that wears, causes pedal to not return correctly and then may return causing a noise or at least mine did. Also the pedal sometimes as it gets worse needs a tap to bring it back up again.

Yep, sounds about right.:thumb2

I have something similar, slight clunk but only in lower gears, not noticeable in 4/5. I'm pretty sure it is a UJ on the rear propshaft. To test, a couple of weeks ago I pumped them full of grease (they took a lot) and the noise went away for a while but its back again now.

To satisfy my curiosity, I plan on just doing the rear one again tomorrow to see if it makes a difference. Looks like a pair of UJ's may be on the shopping list.

That def sounds like UJ's on rear propshaft to me, get under and wiggle both ends every way possible and you'll soon find out

They were a bit of a pig to do first time round but they are more forgiving than you think so don't be scared to hammer the crap out of them, just buy a couple of sockets that you don't mind buckling, you'll need one bigger than the UJ and one small and stubby enough to smash the UJ through with using a lump hammer.

Check them first and come back and we'll soon have you sorted

Unless I got the wrong end of the stick I get this when changing hears, only when foot off clutch (engaging gears) and also only in the lower gears, also not all the time.

I am interested to know!!
Also didnt they remove bleed nipples on the later models

That's the symptoms that failing/failed UJ's give!!!!!

When the clutch is depressed, gear selected and then clutch released the change in road speed causes stress on the prop which will then be felt/heard via the UJ's

Just read, looks like you had a nightmare :lol

So the part itself is cheap then? :nenau
Yeah about 7 quid or something like that, got them from Milners, the new ones had bleed nipples as well which is useful
