i understand if the wrong oil is in the dif you can eng up with a very happy rear end.. there is a thread on it here i think

zippy

Front diff requires a API GL5 spec oil

Gear Box and Transaxle require API GL4

Rear diff requires API GL5 LS - the LS is for limited slip (LSD).

There are oils around that are API GL4 & 5 compliant and these could be used in both the boxes and front diff but it would work out more expensive as GL4 oil is cheap.

GL5 is what used to be known as Hypoid in old money and is for hypoid differentials which are harder on their oil than conventional ones.

You won't necessarily get a tail hapy motor putting non LSD oil in the rear diff, however the LSD won't work to its best, and beleive me the LSDs in these motors do work very very well when looked after right..

i knew some on ewith brains would come a long

i cant find what i was looking for..
