gear oil

Since changing my gear box oil I struggle to get it into second gear but is ok when oil warms up ?? And ideas chaps :nenau

I did the same with my old Lwb and it made it harder to get in 1st when cold!! Alot seem to put the thinner oil in, need to do my Swb as that's the same going to use the thinner oil this time! :sly

Interesting thread, just spotted this, mine suffered like hell with this!! Takes about 3 seconds of holding gear stick in to engage when cold, when warm it's ok.

Might pay to check clutch hose underneath too as mine is weeping :thumb2

My 2nd will crunch if engaged fast when cold

Mmm not convinced, mine has gotten progressively worse.. Although I do have a weepy hose which will loose pressure.

I have a good example, do you think they would have done that when new from nissan? :naughty

Mine does that now and then, I just slide it into 2nd then back to 1st keeping clutch pedal on floor, job done, I think the syncro on second moves something inside the box

Have a read on this. It sounds hard work but the tecnique is well worth learning. I had to use this on old buses with littleor no syncromesh.

Car has to be pre 1965 to not have syncromesh, there are not many of those left running. :nenau
