After doing my 2 week stint working away I jumped in car this afternoon and found the gear stick very loose. I feels like it is going to come off in your hand, no resistance. Changes gear ok, but it just don't feel right.

Ask the wife what she'd done. Usual answer nothing

Had a look at CD Manual and I suspect return spring is knackered???

Is this a common problem and can it be easily fixed? Don't want to remove it and it falls a part :?: Worse still don't want anything dropping in the box

Hello gego,

I would remove the 4 bolts on the gearbox top and remove the whole gear stick with its mount; this should avoid any broken parts falling in. Not sure if it’s a common problem having the spring on these motors break but I have seen many break on other machines, namely tractors. Once its out you can dismantle it and have a look.

Toolbox, thanks for the info :)

If I get time I'll have a look tomorrow, don't think I will as we are getting ready to go and meet the members who are taking their caravans to Benidorm

We're taking to easy option and going on the plane :)

I'll have a look when we get back next week and let you what I find.
Will take some pictures for a workshop as I'm sure it will happen to someone else :!:

-cheers-

Well have a great holiday mate, I am sure the weather alone will be worth going for.

common prob ,easy fix. From inside remove gear lever, on base is a black plastic cup/coller, replace, refit job done.

Mine is also loose just like the OP described. It still goes in gear easily enough but I would like it to be a bit tighter. Gilly, how do you remove the lever? Do you have to dismantle the centre console? Do you know what the collar/cup is called so that I can order a replacement from somewhere? Cheers.
