personally id cyanogenmod it mate, it'll sort it out much better than a factory reset.

Wouldn't bother, Custom ROM's have their issues, he just wants a stock ROM that works is that too much to ask for?

no but isn't the issue that the stock rom by design isn't good enough? I believe that is the case.

What he needs is to put on something that irons out these issues, which is what most custom roms deal with. I'm choosy, so I haven't had a custom rom yet with issues like that, the worst issue ive had is something like "Google Maps has closed"...and with my current phone, I get ZERO issues, and that's running CM11A - customised to the phone.

If what you're saying is the case tough, all S3 users would be in the same boat

Custom ROM's are never stable :doh

I tried Cynagenmod on my S5 and it stayed on there for 2 days before I reverted back to Stock Lollipop with Root access

Right finished my little bit of diy plumbing. Back to the phone, its factory reset and the memory card is removed. Only put my numbers back on and left it at that. Will give it a few days and if it starts slowing down i'll live with it for a while and then off load it back to the provider and get a nice new phone.

no, not all S3 users would be the same, you have different variants of android on all S3s based on provider. Plus, you have different usage by different users. I've had zero issues with custom roms, you have to choose the correct rom.

Well the phone is still going at the moment, stuck a unused 32gb card in it that I had laying around.

Got to thinking at work today, its basically just sat there as a phone and a text machine at the minute. It is kind of defeating the object having a smart phone with a basic setup not using any apps, email or music. I kind of dont see the point having it if Im not using it as a smart phone. I live with it as it is for a few days before just chucking everything back on and if it dies it dies. Ill trade it in and get my £60 and put it towards another phone.

Is there no new software updates for it Jim ? my galaxy ace flagged up there was an update for gingerbread (old I know) so tried to get it but it failed to connect to the server several times:doh must use up the credit that's left on this phone as I want the phone number for my new one:augie

well today i finally had enough , and rung virgin mobile ..... told them i was fed up with poo phones , and having to buy my own phones while on contract ....... ive had a Samsung galaxy ..... a nokia lumina 710 ...... and recently was given a i phone 4 ......... out of all those the nokia knocks spots off the others ...... anyway virgin are going to send me a brand new sparkling sony experia m3 ........ are they any good ?

Hi guys thanks for all the replies about the phones. Looks like I've exhausted all I can do with the phone, just got to wait until I've seen how my finances are after buying the new car.
I've updated Kies but not found any updates for my S3. Have been running the phone for a couple of weeks and sure enough its gone slow again. I've not added any apps, music or anything which has confirmed my thoughts about what's the point in having a smart phone and not being able to use it as a smartphone.

I'd transfer my sim card into a basic phone that I have but it's a small sim and doesn't fit:doh. I'll make do for now and replace at a later date.

Lost me by a mile I have a s4 mini it is what I am using now via a tablet no probs at all except it is a phone and I only have 1gb data which will run out in a few days, then I will be back to my Orange dongle that has 3gb but due to MS forcing a windows 8.1 upgrade I am now at 5mb and rising, it is going to be an expensive month, Rick
