how can veg oil be more expensive then diesel but at same time be cheaper:doh

its more expencive because the diesel itself is only about 75/80p/l (which is bloody cheap concidering what it goes through to get to the pump!) but more expensive due to the taxes levied on it bringing it up to the £1.45/l pump price. if you use loads of veg oil you have to pay tax on it which brings it upto around £1.25/l. but wer talking about 120,000l/annum.

Not sure of the actual price of diesel without Duty & VAT but you explained it perfectly. If there was no Duty or VAT on diesel - unlikely I know - it would be considerably cheaper to buy than Veg oil. My guess would be around 50-60p/ltr. :thumbs
Likewise if they ever decide to put duty and vat on Veg , my guess would be £1.70/ltr

Re. 50/50 mix. Mine also runs nice on the same mix, but 10-15% petrol runs just as nice if not better. Oh and there are make savings made. 50/50 is hardly worth doing. On thurs I put 40ltrs of veg and 3.75ltrs of unleaded (£5er )= total cost £43.98 which is a saving of £17 over diesel only. (1.40ltr x 40 =56. )
50/50 mix, would be £20 on oil and £28 on diesel = saving a quid . All 5poindxr EU

dorn, i have run other vehicles on veg oil without issues. i too was a bit dubious at first but my 03 2.7tdi runs quieter than ever on veg oil and diesel. i am 50/50 at the moe as i dont want to put petrol in, just my inner fear! others seem to have no probs popping it in, and i know it is only being used as a thinning agent
but i couldnt do it :lol
in warmer months i will go up to 80/20 veg diesel.

i use costco and it is £17.79 for 20ltrs, this sways up and down by upto a pound. mike.

Fellas, It's the same fear you had when you tipped in your first bottle of 59p Veg stood in Lidl's car park. That's how I felt putting Petrol in last Friday. I had an 160 mile round trip to do up to Helmsley and back Fri night, and it flew up at an indicated 90 (GPS said 80) 40ltrs veg/ £5 petrol. Normally I pootle on M/way at 2500rpm.

yeah, the old diesel Merc's used to advise adding petrol in winter before the days of winterised diesel.

I use it to help strip water and other rubbish out of waste oil before filtering and lobbing in. She seems to like a little splash of diesel to help starting in the coldest weeks.

My 2.7TDi Mav runs much sweeter on 50 ltr VO, 10 ltr Diesel & 3ltr petrol.
Had a short run down M5 to Farm Foods at Cheltenham last week (without "The Dragon") and was surprised when I put my foot down, the acceleration from 65mph up to 100mph was so quick and smooth! I won't be doing it again, it was a tad scary!
As I'm used to towing a Tin Tent, I'm quite happy at 65-70mph.

After I cleared the pesky banjo mini filter from mine, I managed 90 on, well, lets just call it a test track, briefly - not sure I'd want to go far at that speed, I could practically watch the fuel gauge go down!

I have tested a GPS Speedometer App in a number of different cars and most speedos seem to be 1-3mph out at an indicated 60-70mph. GPS says 57/58 - 68/69 etc.
My T2 is so far out it's a joke. 60mph is 53mph, 70mph is 60mph, 80mph is 70mph, 90mph is 80mph. Iv'e never had it to 100mph, but I dont think it would be any different.

Yep, also makes it look like t2's are getting better MPG than they actually are. :lol
