Fuel Tank Outlet Pipes

Right guys that dam truck is really being a flipping pain in the bum!

So now the metal pipe for the return that goes through the inspection panel is leaking now. Both metal pipes looked corroded but apparently according to my son it bent whilst he was pushing new rubber hose on so now looks like it will be a fatigue crack.

So this will mean a new plate with the pipes won’t it along with all the bolts have to snap too don’t they. Not to mention seemingly the 3litre is different to the 2.7.

Questions are.

Does anyone know where there is one?
Can this thing be replaced through the top without removing the tank?

Exceptionally weewee’d off!

Think I might have a 2.7 tank unit but if the 3 is different then it may not help, certainly the fuel gauge unit will be different, Rick

Fuel line size is of little consequence, if you are really stuck send me your old unit and I will remake it for you, Rick

I’ll see what turns up Rick thanks mate. I’m actually tempted to pump the diesel out and straight into the other truck. Then drop the tank amd waxoyl like Banshee did with the 3 litre he has.

It wont stop there mate, you'll end up doing the lot if you're anything like me :lol

They were an utter pig of a job too mate.

I managed to get them all out though without snapping any, I find the trick is to heat them up with a butane torch and then when nice and hot shock them with wd40 and then get the socket on them quick sharp.

I got the new hex head bolts from eBay but think they are only 4-5mm in length and couldnt find anything suitable so I had to cut them all to length when they came too!!

As been said already, the sender unit and float gauge is a different setup on the 3 litre so make sure you get the right one

I soaked them while doing the rest of the job then ground off the heads when they wouldn't come out. I found enough room between the floor and the tank to get grips on them and wind them out underneath. :thumb2 replaced with stainless cap heads as that was all I had available

We're on about the sender unit now mate not the inspection hatch flap but yeah I've had to do that a few times too :doh

Had another look at my pipes:augie today, the pipes are seriously weakened due to the rust so if it hadn’t happened yesterday it would of happened soon anyway.
So not having much look with breakers and not too sure this one will fix.
I’m on standby for work at the weekend so I should be able to spend some time looking at it to see what’s to be done.

i have been in contact with a chap as he has for sale a good running 3l lump and auto box and other spares for sale,at tattershall.

Well the truck lives to cause me a problem another day:lol:lol

Repaired sender unit arrived back today from Rick, cheers pal. All fitted and the 6mm return pipe fitted. The leaks are banished and didn’t even need bleeding or owt just a couple of pumps on the filter house to pressurise the system and she runs again.

So for future reference the 3litre has 10mm and 6mm fuel lines.

On my 2.7 I used 10mm id for the flow but there was space to play, nothing the clips couldnt deal with so 8mm would be a perfect fit. Im sure the return was 6mm. Ill have a double check.

I think I used 10mm and found the same thing too, but I have air getting in somewhere so may replace with 8mm

Tdoug, if you want I have 8mm brand new just got diesel in it that I was going to chuck in the bin cos it’s no use to me. You are more than welcome to come over and collect it mate :thumbs
