Hi guys can someone please post a photo pointing out the fuel return pipe in the engine bay.
The fuel supply pipe was replaced a few weeks with the thinking that this was the only pipe under pressure amd leaking. Now the leak is actually dripping so I'm thinking the return is now leaking and also causing the surging whilst on tickover.

My engine bay is not any good to you but it's easy to find. Probably easier to work backwards from the o/s chassis rail just behind wheel. Look there and follow the pipe up the inner wing etc.
Then there's the spill off pipe from the injectors but under I/C

I replaced both at the same time on my 3.0ltr.

I'd go with the previous comment, start at the back and work forward.

(If I can do it, anyone can!)

:thumbs

lean into bay and you can see return feed from leak off pipes.its not pressured.leak off can leak.

Is he on about the leak off? I have a pic of that from next to the pump up into the bay kind of thing? I know the leak off from no1 injector isn't pressurised

Hi Banshee, I'm wanting to easily identify the fuel return pipe to the tank in the engine bay. A photo of this would be great to see it.

Cheers

Neither pipes are under pressure, the flow from the tank is under suction, so if leaking will draw air in when running and may drip when not running, the return is only under mild pressure as end in tank is open, but a leak in the return will not cause any running issues, Rick

as i have said earlier, look find leak off at rear of ip and that is the start of the return pipe leak off goes to it.

Is that any use?

So is the return pipe the thicker hose with the wire type hose clip? If so where abouts is that?

Got my hose this morning so I'm all ready for it.

Cheers

Yeah that's the one, runs from the back of the IP down the side of the drivers sill kinda thing if you follow me.

That picture was taken through the drivers side wheel arch, that's with the rubber wing inners popped out and 2" body lift though, access into there without the body lift is a real knuckle damager, access from top isn't best either :doh

You'll be alright as long as you can get your bendy limbs on :freak3:

Think I need a body lift, sooo many jobs seem easier than my bog standard lol. Got the pipe changed, let my son scrape his knuckles at the front end whilst I spilled diesel at the rear end, was surprised how much diesel seemed to come out of the return pipe intake and all over the car port floor:doh

Thanks for posting the photo made it much easier identifying the pipe.

Looking good so far, going to run it around for next couple of days. Was surprised how much diesel came out of the return when I disconnected it from the tank. Did make me wonder if there's a blockage creating pressure. Seems to of cleared the surging on tick over too. Wife isn't too impressed about the diesel on the car port floor though.

The return pipe is much the same as the feed pipe, both end at the bottom of the tank, so you were probably siphoning your tank, Rick

Not sure how that would work Rick because I disconnected at the top of the tank on the nylon connector. If I had disconnected the rpipe below the level of the tank or fuel level I would totally agree about syphoning.

Anyhoo it's all sorted now so happy days just got to leave a car parked on the oil slick until I can clean it up properly.

The trucks fixed, that's the main thing, as for cleaning the drive, I've tried them all, diet coke, bicarbonate of soda, gunk all crap!!!!!

This is the best stuff I've found and after a few good washes it does shift 80% of it, weathering and wear will have to do the rest, be very careful if applying direct to tarmac, cut the time down by at least 1/3 that it says to leave it on.

Thats a good idea Banshee, it's block paving but under cover so weathering just wont happen. Will try and get some of that stuff ta.
