just a quick question:

me and my mate (who has just joined on here) were looking at getting power boxes for our mavs but thought it might be an idea to check it the fuel pumps were compatible first. ive just had a look at mine and took a picture for reference.

Picture

as you can see it says zexel on here so i assume i cant fit a power box although if you look in the small print at the bottom im sure it says bosch.

can anyone comfirm whether a b-pox will fit?

I am fairly sure you can fit the Uniwire type boxes to the Zyxel pumps (not the plug in ones) but you should check with the box maker first.

A re-map would be the other alternative.

Tim.

Hello mate, did you ever get an answer on this, what was the outcome?

what were u thinking of doing? if a powerbox type add-on, I'd look seriously at the Tunit as its much more adjustable. Often available on eBay refurbed from Tunit for around £260 (its the Tunit II you want) - plus you can sell it on to a Lany owner when you've done with it!

Don't think the type of fuel pump has any bearing on it TBH.

I managed to win one of the PSI powerboxes on ebay on a late night wim (dont tell the wife) and wondered if it was going to work as the guy had a '98 Tdi model and mines a 96' Tdi, if it dont i guess it will be back on ebay soon?! :nenau :thumbs

what you trying to fit it to? and what one is if for??

little lost here.

Basically Adrian here has go the same problem as me and my mate. Because our cars a early injection models, we don't use a Bosch pump, ours is a Zexel pump. This means the the connections are different. In theory you could probably splice the PSI box in but there is no guarantee itll work. I'm going to give power boxes in general a miss, even though Deisel Power Tuning reckon they have a got a box thatll fit, and just take my car to a rolling road and have it remapped, at least that way I can also stick a boost controller on the turbo and get a a bit more than a 150 outta the engine!

Id still go for the Tunit - its not connection specific and you just splice the 4-5 wires it has into the wiring loom to the ECU, using scotch-type connectors. The Tunit II (check their website) fits a wide range of vehicles, including Landys, so always has a good s/h market when you finish with it. Typically £260 if you get a refurb unit from Tunit themselves (often on eBay)

Its fully adjustable too so that you can (i) set it up for your particular engine, and (ii) readjust it if, for example, you are using SVO. Theres been at least one instance on here of someone running rough when putting SVO in using a Powerbox....I found my Tunit needs adjusting backwards to stop the engine hunting on overrun when I run a 50/50 SVO mix. Much more flexible than a remap IMHO.

whatnot is exactly right, just posted so that people didn'take the same mistake as me when buying second hand psi powerbox

You can see below my connections are all square unlike the PSi power box which is round, this must have changed when they changed the fuel pump.

When I looked into power boxes Tunit won hands down:D
As said they are adjustable which is defo more handy for further mods:naughty
My truck is early one and now goes like stink (and on neat Bio ):lol
Hurra for Tunit mmmmmmmm power:cool:

I was bidding on a PSi power box on friday, only two bidders, as the auction was coming to an end we had visitors arrive, when the they had gone the auction had ended and the other bidder had bought it for............£26! guess it was you? the laugh is that my T2 is the same as yours.... round pins and an Hitachi MAF REGARDS BRI

Cool deal, at that price I'd get hold of power box people and ask them which wire to attach to on the ECU.
How hard can it be?:augie
Only 6 days till top gear returns:D
PS on ebay use "esnipe" for automatic last second bidding, it works a ruddy treat, fact.

Yep....that was me lol...thanks for letting the cat out the bag on the bargain price?! Lol remind me not to tell you secret ;-) ...I've had not one offer to my surprise only need to cover what I paid plus postage and it's someone elses bargain. Else i'm going to have to try and see if I can make it fit like suggested. worth a try I guess?

In all honesty Adrian I'd not bother.....I reckon the chances of burning out your ECU and ending up with a much more expensive repair job are quite good....better to cut your losses and stick it back on eBay mate.
