Im trying to sort the fuel gauge on my new Mav. Here is where I have got to.

So far I have tested the unit inside the tank. Checked as per manual. Measured differing resistance with the float in the full/ empty positions. Resistance readings were near on what the manual stated.

Traced the wiring through the body and found continuity along the green/orange wire.

I have the dash cluster removed completely and i have continuity between the connector at the tank and the connector directly behind the dash pod.

Checked the tracks on the printed board at the back of the pod an seems ok with continuity.

Is it possible for the guage itself to fail? Now that I know I have continuity all the way should i now be measuring reaistance along the same wire to reflect what should be at the tank?

How can I check the guage specifically for operation? There is a third wire on the tank sensor but not mentioned in the testing procedure. Does anybody know what this one does and wether it could effect me.

Lots of text and I have grabbed some pics but need to go get some lunch :D will through some up later on.

Any more guidance is much appreciated.

That third wire may be to the low warning light
Mine is on permanently since I ran right out of fuel so I guess the switch is jammed in the tank
The normal gauge works OK

Good call on the low level light. Makes perfect sense.

Will check the associated earths next and see if they make any difference.

I had a read of a few posts last night. Came across one by Rick explaining the needle is held on magnetically so if it has ended up pointing downwarda then the signal to the gauge has been lost. Either through sender or wiring.

After cleaning all the contacts with a blast of air and some contact cleaner then cleaning the earth points with some sand paper. The gauge is alive again. I will keep an eye on it but seems to be running just right.
