This morning as I drove to work I notice the fuel gauge needle was straight down as if it had been uplugged, it wasn't registering anything at all. After about a mile it came back on again and has been fine since, any idea what may have caused it? It did seem an electrical problem rather than a float problem... if that makes sense?

Cheers Darryl, Guess we'll have to live with it. Might clean all the electrical contacts and see if that helps....

unlikely to be a gauge problem cos the needle stays at the last powered position magnetically, for the needle to go right down the empty position the sender unit must fault or there is a wiring problem, Rick

It was way past the empty position, was just hanging straight down like a loose hand of an old clock and yeah I sort of worked out there must be an electrical fault in a component or wiring problem somewhere along the system.
