Anyone know how often the fuel filter should be changed my motor has done about 18,000 miles since it was last replaced ?

Not looking forward to doing the job as the filter is right in the corner of the engine bay. Not sure how you remove it either, can you unscrew the bit that goes through the filter without unscrewing the two bolts that hold the filter housing to the body ?

The manual just tells you about de-pressurising the system and then remove it no illustration or mention of how or what bit you unscrew is it just hand tight ?

The primer pump on top of the fuel filter looks as though it is functioning as it is pretty solid if you depress it.

I know its a very basic question but has anyone done one recently, my R3mR is the 1996 model R50 platform with 2.7 TD engine with intercooler ?

I'm not sure how often wth yours, but for the cost, and ease, once a year is probably a good idea?!

I managed to do mine, and im pretty useless. My filter was megga tight, so I ended up having to disconnect the two fuel pipes, clamp it and remove from the primer pump!! But even so, it was an easy job. remove filter, fill new filter with diesel, screw back onto the primer carefully, ensuring it seals properly, then go through the priming, although this should be easy since youve already filled the filter with diesel. The work shop manual shows you exactly what to do.:thumbs

Just clocked 148k and never had a new filter.

I'll add it to my to do list ;O)

I would tend to change the fuel filter every second oil change at least, i.e. about every 12000 miles, and sometimes at every oil change. They should be easy enough to get off but you probably won't get it off by hand. Filter removal tool should get it off easy enough. If its stuck or too awkward to get off then removing the two bolts that connect the whole lot into the holder is easy to do and gives you more room to disconnect the bottom of the housing.
