Straight WVO with a dash of 2EHN cetane boost at the moment. However despite it being the first day of British summer time, the unseasonably cold weather means I will add 10% petrol if the chill continues.

Very new to the Terrano but have run Mercedes engines on veg for nearly 20 years. From past experience sunflower oil was always the best closely followed by oil seed rape. Soya oil generally best avoided as could give very poor performance, results unreliable.

If the WVO is very thick due to over use then petrol or diesel added to assist in filtering. The WVO is always left for a number of weeks before the clear oil being poured off the sediment. This is then filtered through an ASDA brand J-cloth. One layer will filter down to below 10 microns, two layers to near 5 microns.

Fair play, this thread hasn't seen a post since 2014 :lol

You're clearly a veteran with the Oil scene!!!! I 100000% agree with all of what you have said above.

You've only got to pour Rapeseed Oil and Sunflower Oil next to each other at the same temperature to see that there is a massive viscosity difference alone!!! ;)

Old perhaps but ever relevent. We live in unpredictable times despite the unexpected present reduction in price at the pumps. Hence always good to share info. Availability of WVO is more of an issue it seems with the closure of pubs and restaurants but then SVO should drop in price as demand falls.

Was wondering if anyone has found any pump damage due to moisture in WVO. I have never de-watered myself believing it was not necessary being a problem found only in common rail pumps. However having no experience with the Bosch pump would like to know if any water damage had been discovered?

I've had to replace a head seal once due to WVO rotting it out, my current pump has been "Viton Sealed" :naughty

I think that in most cases of 'rubber' parts failing due to veg oil the parts would have failed anyway. Very few rubber parts have not actually been replaced by viton since the 80s and certainly none since bio diesel started to be mixed with diesel in the pumps across Europe. The accepted cut off date is 1994 after which viton or similar was used.

Had a Peugeot 207 (?) Years ago running on veg/mix in which the whole of the rubber fuel line under the car disintegrated, leaving just the thinnest layer of very porous rubber and the outer fabric. It was literally bleeding oil along the whole length and fractured in multiple places when touched. It only took about 6 months to get to this state, demonstrating just how quickly and utterly natural rubber is attacked.

So just to confirm, no horror stories of pump failure from water in fuel?

20+years of running wvo and only had a shaft seal on a bx 1700 start to fail and had to get out and pump the fuel pump till hard and carry on driving,i did change it at a cost of £5 for 2 seals as 2 sizes, the only other fail was on terry 99 2.7 bosch pumped that i got from a mate who had it for 10 years but he had had pump trouble, told me after i started to get problems lol, before and i started to get trouble about a year into me owning it running on summer mix or winter mix untill ip would not suck the fuel to ip so i put inlne 12v pump,10mm fuel pipe straight to ip via inline filter, bypassing the fuel filter altogether, to feed ip till in the end it gave out.if i trickled fuel into inlet it fired and ran and reved no problem but getting fuel from tank no no.
in the end i got another terry ran it from day one on my mixes no trouble untill i pout another pump in i got from rick and then put it back on the road with no more issues untill i needed to get an auto 3l then sold the other 2 terrys.
no more wvo for me.
i still have large tank with filtered wvo in it i need to get rid of so i can use the tank for heating oil,if anyone wants a deal.will need to get from tank to drums i have here.
hope thats answered your guestion albeit in a long post.

For.anyone running on veg oil 5 litres of oil £7.25 with Tesco Club Card at present. £1.45/l is the lowest it's been for a long time. 15 litres max per visit. Also sunflower oil at £7.50 under same deal.
