Hi lads,

I have covered 5000 miles + in the last two months and the terranes been great but especially with the new tyres I'm lucky if i get 27mpg. thats calculating mileage, full tank etc.

So how do i go about converting to veg oil? do you need to put in a special fuel filter? I'm not mega mechanic but happy to give it a go.

cheers in advance

Need to find out what pump and maf you have.

Bocsh maf and pump pour into tank

Oh yea, need to change fuel filter a few times as it Wil clean dirt off the inside of tank

You can only use 2500ltrs in a 12 months. Works out about 15000 miles I think

Who's to know how many miles you do?

Pay for oil in cash and there's no paper trail:D

I run neat veg all day every day now and it didn't cost me a packet to convert.

I'm out at the moment but will do you a full write up when I'm back and send you some links.

i wish, pretty much everything is going through the books as i only ever use the terrano for work really, I'm getting a new 10ft trailer soon aswell so the mpg is going to go even further down.

Thanks of the advice though lads, how do i check what pump and whats a maf?:nenau

I wouldn't be surprised if your mpg is effected or not by much with the trailer on the back.

I'll pass on the responses from my exact same question http://www.nissan4x4ownersclub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=25463.
The maf is found between the air box and the motor https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MIkCH0Y6QFM, if it's a Bosch- it's a Bosch.

True Running Costs

For me the cost of vehicle ownership is worked out as follows. Unless you cover big miles then the fuel consumption is not the biggest expense but it seems a lot as we pay for the fuel every time we fill up. Obviously using cooking oil will have a significant cost saving but other costs may rise.

1) Fixed costs - Road Tax, Insurance,MoT & breakdown cover if applicable.
2) Service Costs.
3) Actual Depreciation in value I work on 30% for the first year for a used vehicle to allow for dealer margin typically 20 % - thereafter around 10-15 % p.a.
4) Money spent on fuel

For my Jeep in 2015 they were as follows having covered 9,831 miles in 2015.
1) £810
2) £513
3) £1500
4) 2073

That worked out as 21 pence per mile for Diesel but the overall cost was actually 50 pence per mile. As my vehicle ages then cost 3) reduces 1) stays much the same but 2) tends to increase over time.

Our Mini did 5531 mile a year and averaged 31 mpg, fuel cost was 14 pence per mile overall cost was 61 pence per mile due to higher cost price etc.

OK so this is the setup I'm running now and have been running 90% - 100% SVO for around 6 - 7 months now and the car has been fine apart from getting Code 21 which I'm still yet to resolve, I'm trying to run 100% to prove a point and I'm still going.

Orrrrr.... You could just keep it nice and simple like most of us do,

Run the tank to nearly empty, stick about 30 to 40 litres of veg oil in the tank, then pop round the corner to the garage and fill up to the brim with normal Diesel.. Then drive as normal 24/7/365 with out any further mods..

Only real concession is to change the fuel filter more frequently...

I started with Veg about 3 tanks before I was due a service, so changed the Fuel Filter, then at the next 6K service, then every year/12K

Is it legal to run svo? And I cant help feeling you've bought a 2 ton house brick mpg ain't gonna be great right from the start but at least you've bought the right house brick

This is not a rant but just trying to understand it all

Yep, it's legal, HMRC allow a 2500l "personal allowance" each year, as each year has gone on I have been getting very very close to that figure but haven't gone over yet, and lets face it, who really cares and how would they prove it anyway if you are the only keeper of the receipts :nenau

Bookers keep records of what you have.

Even if you pay cash as you are a member you use same card. Now if you can get two different cards that would give you 5000lts but only in theory

My records say I've used 990 past 12 months,

But its less than that as Mrs zippy gets it for cooking
