Hi all,

I've been suspicious for a while that my Terrano 2.7TDI has not been doing the milage per gallon it used to do. I recall some months ago it was going for about 420 - 440 miles on a tank but now it's only doing 330ish which gives a grand total of 21MPG:eek::eek::eek:

Any ideas why she's now developed a drink problem over the last few months?

Short runs are a killer MPG wise so if you've done more of them that may explain it, dirty air & fuel filters won't help matters either & if it's getting due an oil change that will prob:thumb2 are your tyre pressure ok as the colder weather can drop the PSI a bit & talking of colder weather this will have a slight impact on MPG as it takes a lot longer for the engine to warm up & it's under more load from having to run light's, heated rear screen etc more often

heavier right foot ? ..... shorter journeys ( stop / start ) ....... serviced regularly ? , incorrect tyre pressures ......... all can contribute to mpg

First question, Bosch or Zexel? this is something I am researching at the moment, Rick

My Mrs TDi Bosch set up does regular 27 and she only drives round town, I know cos I fill it up and zero the trip each time, now my similar year TDI Zexel set up does 19 round town, admittedly I have a good load all the time, but my motor does not pull/accelerate anything like hers, maf has been changed/ruled out so now I am looking for other reasons, I have just won a full diagnostics computer off Ebay hopefully delivered tomorrow, will hook it up to both and try to see why this is, Rick

My 1999 T2 only does 21mpg but thats alot of up and down hill driving, checking horses, but ive a power issue with my truck anyway so that maybe why its that low.Mine has a Bosch system

Well 21 is probably not too bad for what you do but I am on level ground almost all the time so would expect much more than I currently get, Rick

I average about 25 mpg but mine is an auto.
Gave up worrying about it along time ago.
Comes with the choice of motor I suppose.
But saying that my first tdi was a lot less powerful than this one and both the zexel/Hitachi set up.

We done a 400 mile run to Glasgow visiting pals and at 70-80mph when possible, fully loaded, resulted in 29mpg. Thought that was pretty good for a 3ltr auto.

I've just managed 300 miles out of my tank (fuel light on now) 2.7 Bosch 50/50 diesel/veg with a faulty needle lift sensor under powered due to that and a rushed 45 mile journey doing 85-90 at times. So not too bad I don't suppose.

See what the next tank brings, I've fitted the sensor over night and the engine light is out so I'm hoping for some get up and go for the drive home.

I don't know an awfull lot about this - how do I tell the difference.

I also do alot of short journeys back and fore to work which is about 3 miles each way and it's town driving. I do longer journeys at weekends which may involve towing boats etc. I havn't changed my habits so I am wondering if it's tyre pressures as mentioned or do i have another fuel leak?

Ahh, well a mere 3 mile journey is not great, the terrano i suspect will barely be warm by the time you arrive.
