HELP!
Front washer packed up a month ago (again) so I fitted a new pump & all was well....three times. Then it failed (seized?). It just gives one click when fed direct, & does not turn.
As well as this the rear wash & wiper have stopped working. I've tried a known good switch gear stalk to no avail. The 2nd new pump does not work off the stalk either but does work off 12v direct feed.

All fuses are good. but for some reason there is only 3.5v at the pump with both stalks. This must mean something?

Strangely enough a very similar situation happened 8 years ago but corrected itself after fitting a new pump.

Any ideas much appreciated before I tear all my hair out LOL..

If you're seeing 3.5v rather than the 12v needed to operate the pump then I'd be looking at tracing the wires back from the pump to the fusebox, I'd guess you have some manky/corroded wiring between the two.

To prove this out before you start swapping pumps out again etc, I'd be tempted to get a small 12v hobby battery and directly feed the pump and check it's operation, if that works as it should then you've found your problem :thumbs

Then it's just a case of unwrapping wires and finding your way back from the pump to the fusebox power source......... GOOD LUCK

Thanks for the suggestions Banshee :thumb2 .If nothing obvious shows up then I'll wire the washer pump direct from the battery via a fuse & a flick switch. Never use the rear anyway (wheel lift makes view too small!) & I've always preferred switching the washer on before the wipers (the only plus point I can remember from my 7 years of hell living with an Austin Montego).

The pump had definitely seized as it would not turn even with 12v.
The 3.5v problem existed when the 1st pump failed but somehow corrected itself when a new pump was fitted. Don't have the faintest idea why.

If you are going through pumps like that it seems to me you have a dirty tank, Rick

No chance-I flush the bottle out before changing a pump & always filter the washer fluid. I've now resorted to wiring the washer pump direct from the battery (via a fuse & a switch LOL). It works much better than it ever has (probably due to less voltage drop) but I am still at a loss as to why the rear wiper, washer & front wiper timer don't work.
Yet more faulty things to live with.........just as long as the mechanicals are reliable.

Washer pump has failed AGAIN!!!! Just as I thought a direct feed from battery to pump had finally cured the problem.
This has got beyond a joke so I stripped the pump down (& the 8 yo original one). It seems they both had the same problem: water creeping passed the drive spindle, flooding the motor cavity, & then entering the electrical connection on top & presumably shorting across the terminals & blowing the fuse. This latest one has only lasted 7 operations (over 7 months inc. the MOT!). As the Terrano is not used a lot (especially during the winter) the washer is very seldom used anyway, which might be part of the problem.

Always the bodger I replaced the headlight washer pump (only works for 1 second at a time!) with a 40 year old pump from a VW Polo! This works perfectly so I'm very tempted to leave well alone.........until next time at least LOL.

Glad you got it sorted mate even if not conventional, Rick
