Does anyone know if the front propshafts are balanced and need to be fitted to a specific orientation to the front diff and transfer box face plates. So if I remove the shaft with its 8 bolts.

Will it effect balance of the shaft and as there has been a new uj fitted that has a grease nipple on would this throw it out of balance.

I get a vibration at higher speeds with the front propshaft fitted, when removed theres no vibration.

Shouldnt make any difference they are ballanced when they are manufactured.Have you checked for play in the slider part ive got one from late model has had new joints but the slider is knackered due to lack of grease

If your worried, why not mark the flanges so you know they will go on the same way as they came off

We did mark the flanges when it was removed. It had one of the UJ's changed which has improved things without a doubt. Im tempted to leave it off full stop and drop it in px somewhere. Its been a dog has this motor since I got it, just one thing after another.

That's a shame

Still once you get her running sweet you'll be so chuffed and also worry free as there wont be anything else left :thumbs

I always mark the prob where it fits onto the transfer box & diff (you shouldn't have to really but I do:rolleyes:) TBH if replacing one of the UJ's made things better i'd be replacing the other one aswell as they'll both wear roughly at the same rate

That is not important, what is important is the yolks are in line, this means that the cups are completely in line with each other, this is not a constant velocity shaft, it goes at fits and starts (the shaft that is) so make sure the yolks are in line (altered on the sliding spline), Rick

Sorry Rick, that's lost me:doh

I thought the UJ's took up a small amount of movement off centre and the sliding joint just took up the length.

I'd been thinking about getting a friend to remove the shaft this week and then drop it in at a local garage along with a brand new UJ and asking them to fit the new UJ. This should basically mean the shaft is refurbished shouldn't it as one UJ has just been replaced anyway so that would be both done. Or have I missed something?
