Front prop shaft UJ

Hello peeps.

Truck passed its MOT in Feb so I'm here for another year.

Sooooo, been suffering some vibration which, via wheel balancing, turns out to be a UJ on the front prop shaft. Gearbox end. Caught it just about in time. Wouldn't have had many more miles left.

Anyhoo, I've taken it off to have my garage replace the UJ (why they hadn't spotted it is another matter). My question is, is it okay to drive the truck around (like properly, on the road) with the propshaft missing? In 2WD of course.

You'll be fine pal as it's bolted flanges both ends unlike the rear prop :thumbs

You've got me curious as to what is on the rear. Is it a spline from the gearbox?

Yes sliding spline on the rear to cater for axle movement, front is fixed although on rubber mounts, you could limit front wear by getting manual hubs as yours has the fixed variety so your drive shafts, diff and front prop are needlessly turning all the time you are driving, Rick

OK. Prop ready to refit.

What torque settings are the bolts? I've struggled (failed) to find it in the manual. Also, are you supposed to use new nuts/bolts?

In my haste I failed to mark the prop and flanges. I'm guessing/hoping that is more of an issue for the sliding spline.

As long as the UJ's line up then just bang it back on, moderate force with normal spanners, Rick
