Hi guys,
Well on my way home tonight my steering went notchy and the truck started to steer terribly. Pulled over to check the steering and the front offside wheel was not how it should be. Turned it full lock and managed to see the upper wishbone mount sheered from the chassis.
Managed to creep her the last 100 yrds home and onto the drive.
I'll pop the wheel off tomorrow morning and will post the damage for everyones enjoyment.
While posting I'll ask, has anyone got a Terrano they're scrapping for parts who fancy cutting and selling the offside chassis leg from just behind the suspension rear link to the front of the wheel arch including the suspension mounts?
Worth a try as I'd prefer to cut and weld in what I need rather than fabricate by hand.

That's bad news. Sounds like a JOB FOR............ SOLARMAAAAAAN. :freak3:

Yes I got the bits, just tell me where to cut, no problem, Rick

Thanks Rick for the quick reply.
Upon further inspection it turned out to be the shit metal brackets they fit everything to the chassis with that had corroded. The actual chassis was sound so I managed to plate it up with some old school gas welding in my front garden and got it all back together. I'll post some pictures when I'm done.

It may have already been brought to peoples attention in the past in which case sorry in advance.
It may be of use for people to check their wishbone mounts also. While prepping for welding I found the top shockers mount is sealed 3/4 to the rear of the inner bracket however the front 1/4 is open into the void behind the front wishbone mount.

This means water when splashed into the shocker mount can get in behind the suspension mount and rot it from the inside out as has happened in my case. The drain holes in these brackets are pitiful and don't allow the water to escape especially if debris has built up. As all these mounts are connected it means they all rot slowly.
Easiest prevention method is to remove the top wishbone bolts and spray this whole area with Kurerust in a spray bottle. Once dry then spray with loads of waxoil in a sprayer inside the bolt holes and in behind the shocker mount. Also up inside the end of the cross member mount.
It will ooze out of the lower cross member mount when the cross member bolts to it, but you may be glad you did it.
I've now plated my mounts including inside the shocker mount to try prevent water ingress as well as kurerust and waxoil to seal it all.
Just a heads up for people.

Woah man that surprised me how bad it was, nice job fella :thumb2, I'll definitely be having a poke with the screwdriver tomorrow.
