Hi there,
Can someone tell me the easiest way to remove the front drive shafts so I can change both CV joints ?
Do I need to remove a ball joint ?

Thanks

Hubs off, discs and pads off, remove ball upper ball joints (make sure you have a spare and that's your outer sorted

Never had to do an inner but pretty sure you'll have to unbolt from the gearbox but beware of fluid loss

Thanks for the reply, would it work with the bottom ball joint off ?
I was thinking about changing them anyway.

Couldn't be sure without actually being in front of it but be sure of this, you will def need new upper ball joints as they will NOT come off in one piece unless they are weeks old :lol

Actually the top ones have done about 100 miles.
Can I take the 4 top bolts out, or do I need to pop the taper out ?

make sure you specify that you want the ones with the grease nipples otherwise you may get fobbed off with the cheapo ones

Also I'd buy both side at once, otherwise when you come to do the other side, the ones Milners sent you may no longer be in stock and due to manufacturing differences this may make the truck sit wonky

Trust me on that from experience :doh

Doesn't bolt to gearbox so no fluid loss

pop the taper on the top ball, remove the shock as you will not have enough space to get it out, 6 bolts on the diff flange and away, most likely you will need a good bench vice to hold the shaft while you knock the CVJ off some go easy others take a real heavy hammering with a heavy soft faced hammer, and as we discovered with Alex some of the new clips that hold the shaft into the CVJ can be a bit deformed and do not go into the CVJ as they should, ruined the first one, but I had spares, also the boot clips left a bit to be desired, Rick

Thanks for the info, I had mine out when I was rebuilding the old girl onto another chassis, and the clips got lost.
I had to get her together in order to move it.
Now having to go through all this just to install the little snap rings which hold the cv joint to the shaft.:doh

do not be tempted to drive the CVJ onto the shaft while it is attached to the diff as you will pop out the sealing disk on the diff end of the shaft, Rick

Yes in all seriousness the boot clips too are important, as the two kits I had contained different clips... Both marked as suitable for the job, but needed er... Modding :augie to fit...

If it wasn't for rick my truck would have been i mobile
