But I did have to make some supports for the actual radiator which I didn't realise I would have to do but all done

To be honest it's really bad I may have to replace quite a bit :doh:confused:

I got the same problem.
Did it take much to get the front gubbins off to get at it?
Can you put up pictures as you repair the rest please?
Shame you can't get any repair panels for the front corners, it would be easier just to cut them out and re-weld new ones in.
There is a company on ebay who sell steel, they offer a bending service to their customers, I might go that route.

if you had measurements etc its possible i could have something cut/folded but unsure of the postage..

Postage would be pretty cheap with like interparcel.

There must be an opportunity for a small fabrication works to make up this simple structure with out riggers as a bolt on, for a realistic price.:nenau

After all the work is in the measurement, and design and working out where everything goes.

Once done and documented, then it can be reproduced dozens of times at the cost of materials plus an hours labour. ( ok could be more but you get the idea).

Can anybody draw one up, then we can add variants to it to suit different models.

This also applies to sills, we have one for a front tow bracket.

With a bit of care, we can keep these trucks running for a few more years yet.
Mechanically they are generally sound, but when 15 years old or more, tend to succumb to the tin worm.

You have to consider that in the long term, the future of this club relies on its members, and most are Terrano and Maverick owners, with ageing vehicles, which in say 10 years time , MOST will be on the scrap heap.

Well except for mine, and that will be having it's 28th birthday.... as if...:lol

Best regards,

Rustic

Sorry, was that to me or Bloat? Or both?

anybody :lol we have a lazer cutting machine at work and a folder. to show what the lazer can do this is what the lad run off for me last week

1.5mm mild steel 14 inch tall,

I will be doing mine in a few weeks ready for the mot so could tske some measurements then
Had a poke around last night thought it was looking ok until i pulled a large chunk of rust out of it think i will be bining the air con rad on mine
Thinking i will use 50x50 box and angle

I used 80x40 box on mine with 30mm box for the uprights then welded it to the bodywork [it was a old sunbed frame :lol] but it got through it's test and is very strong so should be OK.

Guys a mate is fabricating a new crossmember from 50mm and angle and we'll be fitting it on Saturday, one thing has been troubling me, does the new crossmember have to be welded on for the MOT or will bolting it on be sufficient?

Bolting on is fine mine went through mot a couple of weeks ago
You might find you will need to trim about 10mm off the edge of your angle to get the metal bumper to fit

Hi mate.... do you have the dimensions of your box section and angle iron? :)

Just a word of caution, those rad Suppot plates will bend without folds on them. The constant bouncing around will flex them down over time allowing the rad to slip out and the fan is directly behind. Just friendly advice that's all, I have done a little bit of fab work and seen similar repairs go bad.. The flat plates have no strength without a fold at least on one side...

Well spotted, agree with that, but late now for folds so weld a flitch under, Rick

Keep an eye on my project thread because I'm doing this exact repair at the moment.
As a rough guide I'm using a 1m length of 80mm x 40mm box section with 3mm mild steel plate.

I'm pretty convinced that every cross member that has rotted out the body mounts will be rotten too. The front panel in this location is made up of 3 layers of thin steel that is spot welded together. Water gets in and the layers rot and swell. Will try and post up comprehensive photos on my project thread a bit later this week.

I'm also sure that the bumper reinforcement will also be rotten as well as mine was too.

A lot of hidden rot that isn't picked up very often.
