Front ARB drop link rubber, replace with ?

OK from experience I know that these things seem to wear at an alarming rate - especially if use the truck off road - Which I do.

Question 1 is do the poly one wear any better than the ones get from Milner off road or ebay ?

Or am I better making some from say a old rubber mallet ? Or any other suggestions ?

Question 2 is does it actually need them ? From road car experiance (mostly Subaru) the ARB is polyutherane / rubber for noise / vibration reasons and a common thing to is replace them with steel / solid links to sharpen the handling up.

Wuld this be a sensible thing to do on a Terrano - replace with metal inserts - or does it use the compression of the rubbers on the drop links for greater articualtion ?

Also I now a few have mentioned removing all the arbs but only want to remove the front one as this is the one that seems to wear most on mine, but concered about the effect of handing mostly.

Thoughts / ideas most welcome

Ive got polys from ebay. they work ok..

SOME on here dont have a ARB as all. but you MUST remove ALL bits of it to pass an MOT i belive.

makeitfit and extrem4x4 are two i can remember but im sure there are more.

I'd go for Milner Off Road Poly replacements.

usual problem with the t2

easy fix though, basically mine has none on the rear which is great off road. some remove both front and back but the body roll is dire. so with the fronts only on it rips the front bushes to threads in hours.

the fix is

new drop links from milners, these come with 4 new big washers, if you save your old big washers thats enough to give you

drop link then washer, bush, washer, wish bone, washer , bush, washer, lock nut.


basily the extra washers fix the massive wear holes in the wishbone caused by the old drop link rattling about


mine has been like this for months with great results on and off road. driving heavy

What I want to know is are the rubber bushes neeed for extra compression or can I replace these with metal spacers ?

had mine done at a local autocentre ... they tighted the front wheel bearings up too ....£110..... robbin barstewards

What he said AND the bottom arms are only thin metal. I've shredded mine so I know :doh

Has anyone had any problem with the roll bar itself wearing, where the rubber bushes that hold it to the crossmember are. I don't mean the droplinks, I mean the bits that hold the rollbar on.
My Cabstar is the same setup and i got an extra year out of it before having to buy a whole new rollbar by wrapping it with insulation tape. I notice my Terrano has this insulation tape already fitted.

I mean I put tape on the bar to make it the right diameter for inside the new bushes. The bushes were only a year old and needed replacing, the bar itself was worn.
I still have it knocking about somewhere I will measure how much it had worn.

If the ARB has worn, it must have been some previous owner running it without any servicable bush in place:augie
Before I binned mine I never had a prob with slack bush :naughty
Drop links fail every 10 mins off road but the arm ones should be fine.
Once worn ofcourse you'll need the tape to get the arm back up to the right size I guess
However there's always plenty of arbs up the scrappy

one of mine looked worn and bushes loose , but tightened up when the brackets were in place and tight
