Well after saving a terrano and getting it back on the road as a run about, today I had a look at the rear brakes on the beast and found this!!

Drivers side wheel cylinder is a gonna and some serious wear has occurred!

Passenger side is pretty much the same!!
So it's new cylinders and shoes tomorrow! Much bigger drum on the later truck, local motor factors keep it all in stock as its from a Nissan cab star apparently!
Some really un even wear on the shoes? Any ideas why? Maybe just all the mud seizing up one of the shoes!
Pay and play days really do take a toll on your truck!!

You'll find on the replacement shoes one is thicker than the other.

the auto adjusters on these do actually work if cleaned up and greased, Rick

The adjusters were free as I'd stripped and freed them off about 6 months ago. The size of these brakes in comparison to the earlier ones is huge!
The drums had taken a bit of a beating so I skimmed the out on the lathe.

Like new now!!

Did the same to mine, well the machinist did at work.
Makes it so much easier to get the drum on and set up the adjuster without that lip in the way :thumb2

Hope you did not take more than a few thou off, with worn shoes the pistons will be perilously close to their limit, Rick

Just till they cleaned up, the truck will never do much more than a 1000 mile a year so with the new shoes going in it should last a fair while!
Elty that was my very same reason, bitch to get them on and off with that lip!! Especially when your stripping and cleaning them quite often, after playing in the mud!!!

One thing leads to another eh bigbunny, he was last seen rolling around under his truck wrestling with a diff:doh

Great to see you and the trucks Bigbunny

Tip...
to get the rear drums off more easily, assuming handbrake adjuster is slackened, try tightening the 8 mm release bolts that go into the drum, until resistance is met, and the drum appears to be locked, then slacken the 2 M8 bolts, then thump the drum with your fist once, or twice, or use a rubber mallet, and you should hear the shoes spring back, then the drum just pulls off, well it works on my 1995 2.7 td anyway... since the auto adjusters don't on that year lol...

Cheers for the tip rustic I'll remember that for next time and give it a try!
Good to see you Jim, it was a little un planed!
Seen as I'm changing the wheel cylinders thought I may a swell but the lower ratio diff in whilst it was stripped!
Gave Rik a quick phone call to just check how to remove it!
Quite an easy job really!!
