Today we decided to part with our Jeep GC WJ series 54 plate as it was racking up the miles plus starting to show it's age after over 6 years of ownership & daily use - she now has a not record breaking 131 k miles on the clock.

After a lot of looking at various options we have bought a 2013 plate Freelander Auto - we couldn't face the prospect of a CVT transmission the option that was a close second choice - the Suzuki Grand Vitara Petrol so stuck with diesel.

In the end had to discount the likes of Nissan X-Trail & Toyota Rav4 & VW & Volvo options in our price range. Time will tell if its more reliable than the Range Rover & Disco vaiants but it fits our bill.

Always a risk is buying a used vehicle so time will tell if it's okay or a money pit. I'm bracing myself for the comments...........................

In all seriousness I like the look of the Freelander 2, look good inside too. I think it should have a low box though.

The wifes Freelander - she likes it - first battle won

We picked up the Freelander on Thursday - wife is out in it as I post. She likes the drive so time will tell.

My first impression is that there is a lot of general road noise - in our Jeep this was drowned out by engine noise. With the radio on its much nicer - lighter steering & very nippy feel plus the computer is showing an average of 31 mpg over the last few thousand miles.

At the moment - no oil leaks and we have breakdown cover with our NFU policy.

Freelander S2 Auto update.

I was not happy with the road noise on the Freelander - turns out the n/s/f wheelbearing was the cause - detected by supplying garage with a stethoscope - they replaced the bearing & did an oil service f.o.c. so well pleased. Currently managing 29.4 mpg - Wendy likes the way it drives it so it's win-win so far. It has full leather trim and fancy LED lighting all round - get ready for expensive bulb replacement then!

Good garage bybsounds of it :thumb2

Reading with interest as an FL2 is a contender to replace our Cmax. The idea we have 2 4x4s, and either could shift the caravan.

In one of the caravanning groups we attend, the FL2 is by far the most popular tug, reminding me of the scene 10 years ago when T2s ruled the caravan rally field.

Other contenders would include the Jeep Cherokee, maybe the X Trail, pity no real T3 these days.

So far so good but early days yet!

At the moment Wendy absolutely loves the Freelander - it's nippy, economical & very car like in the way it drives.

I put a set of tyres on it as I have a thing about decent rubber plus I have replaced the original battery with a Yuasa AGM battery (overkill) to be sure it starts in the winter. A failure to start would be a major domestic.lol

As there are a few small gaps in the service history I plan to get a Haldex unit service in a couple of months time.

I loved the Jeep WJ but the service costs were a bit on the steep side when suspension parts had to be replaced. The WK 3.0 CRD mk1 that I use has been ok so far the only unexpected expense being the handrake cables that were binding & rusted. We've had that since Juy 2018 but it does not do a lot of miles annualy.
