Hi my daughter with her W reg Terrano, found out the hard way last week in the snow, that her Front Wheel drive doesnt work !.

An old friend of ours jacked up the Right Front wheel and through a process of elimination found the problem, the Lock is broken (he told us), it's a lump of metal under the Hub Cap !

Is anyone familiar with this part ?.

We would try and obtain another one but we dont know it's proper name ??

Can anyone help name this part Please, and is it easy to fit once we get one ?

Sounds like a free wheeling hub is dead

What year Terrano ?

Bye I have a pair going cheap ...

they may just need degreasing and a spray of copper slip, can you post a pic of the bit you think is broke, I did a thread on here with full pics and a description of how they work, Rick

Automatic locking hub is another name:thumb2

Hi chaps, thanks for your very prompt replies, it is a W reg so i guess it is a 1999/2000 year.
Yes it is automatic the switching in and out of 4 wheel drive, so that must be the correct name a automatic freewheeling locking hub.
Is this the type you have for sale STINKA ?
It is definitely broken, kaput ! Solarman !

Might not need the full hubs!!! check out previous threads on this subject. There is a part called "Brake Ring", in actual fact it is two rings and one has two lugs on it. It's often simply the lugs that break off. There are several posts with links to online manual, there will be an exploded view of the hubs so that you can see the brake rings.

Usually caused by either lack of use or using the 4wd on a hard surface.
