It's shown on the OS map as a track with green dots on it, so iirc this is a public right of way

Now it's about 1.5 mile long, quite narrow in places but I think its mostly passable in terms of fence width, but it's very scratchy. Parts have well established bushes growing into it. There are 2 large 2 ft+ wide trees across it in 2 seperate places, so a petrol chain saw is needed.

Towards the end it gets very narrow with well established trees that are barely passable.

Now my question is where do I stand legally in clearing it so it's passable ?

Can I get up it and DO some chopping and sawing to make it drivable again ?

:whistle

Unfortunately the OS map does not mean it's "Still" a by way open to all traffic  You need to check with your county's definitive map 1st. If it's a goer then yes you can and you'll get some nice loads of logs from that lot too. At least a winter's worth there by the looks :thumbs

Well, I am going off bing maps mate, so I presume they use the most recent OS map

Also, can u cut down trees in between the boundrys/fences of the marked path ?

Anyone know where I can find the byway officer for staffs ?

Cheers

Bing map Os map , no odds mate.
Means diddly, check with council.

Ok mate will do

Byway abatement is the term :) where you are allowed to trim and cut back trees as you need to make the road passable

mmm Nice term :sly
Try and get the co-ordinates of the lane you've found so it's easier for the council's map monkey to find it too :thumbs

How do you do that ? I see those numbers beginning with SK if I recall correctly but how do i get that off bing maps ?

I think the SK bit is the local map OS then you just read the grid numbers off the map. Lat 1st then Long. Google maps will do it for you :thumbs

That tree that's across the track, just see if it's fallen down, it may have been cut down, to stop vehicles, in which case, you may have an anti living in the area :nenau
Just a thought

Looks awesome!!! I hope you manage to find out some info about it, will make it all worth while when driving it if you've actually done the work to get it passable :)

GOOD LUCK :clap:clap

Interesting you say that because that's the first thing I thought when I saw pic 2

Just spoke to the council ROW officer, they're getting back to me :)

If its a goer I'm getting up there this afternoon with a chainsaw and some hedge trimmers :D

It's gonna be like an episode of the famous 5 or sommit

Log that timber and flog it off for a few hundred quid easy:D That'll pay for your lokka :naughty

I will just put it in the garage I think and use it through winter :)

don't trim it back too much, keep it on the low down.

Of course mate, I won't trim it at all mate if I don't have too, it's proper scratchy :D

I've got plenty of go faster stripes on the motor already, the more the merrier
