hi everyone, not sure where to put this as its a ford transit query, sorry if its in the wrong place but, my dads transit has started smoking like a sod and dumped a load of engine oil into the airbox, im pretty sure its rings but havent been able to look at it yet, any other thoughts or things for him to try before i get it into the garage? thanks for any ideas

problem with that is it doesnt have one:doh should have mentioned that before eh, iv removed the oilmist return pipe from the air intake pipe and made up a catch tank so i can guage how much oil is actualy blowing back, this should also stop it fouling the airfilter. it runs better straight away but i still need to sort the initial problem. thanks guys

no the oils coming out of the breather, it goes straight into the inlet but theres so much its swamping the lot.:doh

If the oil is coming out of the breather have you thought of the possibility of a headgasket failure, holed piston or worn/failed rings causing cylinder pressure to escape in to an oil passage or the crankcase?
Simple compression test would tell you more if you can get the glow plugs out.

yer im thinking worn rings, i need to do a compression test but arent looking forward to pulling those old glowplugs out:naughty
