Hi all, sorry but this is not a nissan related question, but i am sure there are some very good experienced mechanics out there that may be able to help?

I have a 2003 Vauxhall Vivaro van, 1.9dti and i am experiencing some problems with the throttle pedal; when i start it up, usually from cold the accelerator does not work if i press it, then after a good few seconds the throttle works fine.

Can anyone point me in the right direction please as i don't fancy taking it to the stealers...

Cheers
Stephen

This from google search.

What symptoms did you get when the injectors went? Bought a second hand Vivaro 2 months ago and when I turn on the ignition the engine idles but there is no response from the accelerator for a few minutes... then it will drive fine until I switch it off but it won’t easily start again. Any ideas? I need the van for work - Neil Gillingham from Ayrshire
I too have similar problem with an idle engine on my Vivaro 06 plate, with no accelerator response for about a minute upon ignition, not every time but on a significant number of occassions to be worrying. Other than that and a few electrical errors the van is cracking. If anyone has any info on this idling it would be much appreciated - Tristan Drew from Yorkshire
Had same problem with mine, it was the injectors but injector number 4 had welded itself in so needed a new head 12/1/2010 and a £2200 bill. Then 3 months later mass flow sensor & vacuum valve solenoid 3/4/2010 and a £200 bill. Then this week steering pump blow out the back 22/6/2010 and a new £220 bill. Don’t buy these vans - Rob Shaw from Yorkshire
I have same problem but find that if I restart with a little accelerator it works fine - Mick Curr from England
That’s the fly by throttle going through self diagnostics and attemption to calibrate itself. It seems to happen more on cold mornings I was told. Perhaps its a sign of a sensor failing? Gary from England

Hi mate, thanks for that, but it doesn't really give me any clues...

THE CLUE IS........SELL IT QUICK.....while, hot unless you have a barrow load of money to throw at it.
Good luck, David.

Hi guys i have had the van since it was 6 months old and i have had no major problems with it at all, a couple of sets of wheel bearings, track rod ends, and discs but apart from that nothing much....not only that but it runs on 100% bio, so saves me a fortune.

I was told a few years ago by a guy at work that his had this problem and it turned out to be some potentiometer or something, its just i cant go to the dealers and ask them cos they will want to do the job.

I plugged my fault code reader in today and it has no recorded faults...

Only just saw this post....

Have had afew of these, and the Renault flavour too. I'm sorry to say that 95% of the time, the HP pump is fecked causing the no-rev when cold as the ecu finds it cannot control rail pressure. Running on Bio will have helped its demise.

To confirm you need someone with a scanner to plug in and observe frp_act and frp_des figures. They should be pretty much the same, but i bet yours arent immediately when started. The tolerance is 100bar at which point the ecu shuts it down to idle.

Hi Timbo, the problem i have has been there much longer than the time i have been running it on bio, so i am pretty sure that can be ruled out and if anything it runs better whilst on bio, with no side effects.

When you say HP pump, what is that (hope that doesn't sound too dumb?)

Is it something that can be repaired?
And if so at what kind of cost?

Cheers
Stephen

HP - high pressure pump. There are ~4 different pumps on these vans according to fuel system fitted, and whether you have the lift pump strapped to the back or not.

Hi, thanks for the reply.

Any idea on the work involved or the cost to replace?

Cheers
Stephen
