Flat Tyre

so for the last couple of weeks, my nearside front tyre has been loosing pressure (actually, its been doing it for over a year), with the extreme wind, its been going flat over night AFTER I have pumped up to about 20 psi.

anyhoo, I have inspected it, cant see any nails etc so tomorro wI am going to use my compressor to pump it up and do the soapy water check, but I am thinking it just needs re sealing. I noted it has those clip-on weights, is it probably that they are contributing and should be changed for stick on ones?

i know nuffin , but i think the tyre valve may be leaking , or the rim corroded /not sealing correctly

squirt some soapy water around your valve ..... bet its leaking

I spent 16yrs tyre changing infact my own front tyre was loosing for weeks then suddenly next morn it was sat on its rim . As i guessed 9 out of 10 the alloy & steel wheels corrode , the alloys always fur up out came the sander very fine disc nice clean air tight seal sorts it no tubes i like em tubeless less probs

yeah thats what I'm thinking Gaz, they need to remove the tyre, get a knife on the rim then sand it down. Right, thats the plan tomorrow, although as you say Briggie, I do plan to check the valve first with the soapy water.

once the tyres off the rim check the tyre for any nails foreign objects once happy good clean up on the rim i used to put new valve in every time fit tyre inflate to around 60psi just to seat the bead to the wheel then ajust to correct pressure oh & yes some of those big clip balance weights can give probs check with soapy water after or use stick on usually on 4x4 wheels they often need more weight than an average low profile due to the big sizes & makes

When I ever have a flat, it is always at the bottom, the top is ok.:lol:lol

It could be a thorn, it often leaks more when the tyre is in a certain position, making the hole appear larger. These are difficult to locate as they don't leak a great deal, sometimes the only way is to remove the tyre and check the inside as suggested.

But I would check the valve, and dust cap. If when you remove the dust cap, there may be a slight hiss.

cheers guys. Took it down to a tyre place I have never used before, but came recommended. The english wasnt so great, but I easily communicated I wanted the tyre re sealing. Off they went and did the job, put the wheel back on for me and so far, all is ok. I just need to check and top up the air in the tyre (havent had chance yet) and see how it goes over the next few days.

They DID remove the clip on weights too, which is good, so I will just have to keep an eye on things and get the tyres re balanced if needs be.

I parked on the edge of a rock for a few hours once, the tyre was fine, we drove home, but next morning the tyre was flat. I swapped it for the spare, and pumped up the flat tyre it never went down again......
I must have disturbed the bead seal.

yeah, similar thing happened on my old Mazda MX6. Very low profile tyres, brand new, over a period of about 3 years, the tyre would go flat every 4-5 months. Pump up, and it would be ok until the next 4-5 months...It parked up on gravel!

I had The rims balanced on my t2. New stick on weights fitted and it made a big difference. They are the same rims as on you're maverick:thumbs

Sheila`s Vectra would loose a few pounds every week so had to have it resealed.
alloy rims with lackered finish which had corroded .
after a few weeks it was leaking again so used one of those tyre inflater cans .
£7 .holts i think it was.
its been sealed now for 2 months with no loss of pressure.
FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS REGARDING VALVE AT TOP DEFLATE TYRE PUT IN CONTENTS OF CAN RE INFLATE (over pressure it then adjust to correct pressure) then drive for 10 miles or so.:thumb2
